The Walking Dead

There's a very good candidate for non-essential head-smashing there, I can't even remember that character's name. Carol looks upbeat. I laughed at the CGI tiger. Maybe this is the wacky season?

I've only just got into this. I watched all six seasons in a couple of weeks. I found it a bit slow early on, and the second season definitely drags a bit. I don't think I would have stuck with it watching it on a week to week basis. However, last couple of seasons it has really gathered pace and I can't wait for the new series next week!

Anybody watched the new episode yet? Nasty. A lot of people are saying the series has now shifted into the realm of "torture porn". I'm not sure I would disagree.

I'd agree. Not sure I could really call it entertainment anymore, didn't particularly enjoy that 44 minutes at all… TV shows like this are escapism, the fear of being eaten by a zombie, not the fear of some horrible sadistic bastard capturing you and torturing you. Bit too close to reality with some of the shampoo going on in the world.

Not the two I would have picked either, but then I guess they have to go for people that you care about or be accused of being a copout. Just felt there was some bland faces there who could have been chopped in dramatic fashion.

Going to watch Ep1 of new season at 9 pm on Fox.

Can you imagine the outcry if that level of violence...
...had been inflicted on one of the females?

Yeh, though I was hoping one of them would be Maggie. After the Glenn fake out and them finally getting back together it would have been fiendishly cruel. Plus, they surely can't bring in another baby so she has to be on borrowed time - though she could quite probably have lost the baby anyway after that trauma. Would also have been happy to see Carl go. Or that guy whose name I don't even know. The bland one with curly hair. Felt Glenn and Abraham still had a part to play in the story. Suppose losing them opens up opportunities for other less interesting characters to develop.Just Morgan, Carl and Rick left from Ep 1 now.

I think, to an extent, they are still taking the source material (ie. the comics) into consideration with regards to the fate of some characters. Although people like Daryl are merely there because of overwhelming popularity within the fan community. It would be suicide on the part of the showrunners to get rid of him.
Because of the comics, most people seemed to know Glenn's number was up, and the whole eyeball hanging out thing was from the comics too (I still think it was a step too far to show it and prolong his suffering for ten long seconds).
The "bland" guy with curly hair you're referring to is possibly Aaron? One half of the token gay couple who stalked them before offering them sanctuary in Alexandria? The show had already recently killed off one of the only two lesbians, so I knew it wouldn't be him. Or do you mean Eugene? He of the curly mullet? I'm a bit sick of Rick to be honest. It was a welcome respite when we started to get episodes which didn't feature him at all.

Yeh Aaron, that's the one. He offers nothing for me. Eugene I like. Though he is surely fated to one day step out of his cowardly typecast and be the hero thus sacrificing himself to save the others. I think it would be a pretty dynamic and applaudable decision to kill off Rick. I'm sure I'd read at some point that he wanted to move on to other things so did think it was possible for a while. I think he an Daryl and probably Carl are the three who cannot be axed before the finale. I've not read the comics but knew what was coming for Glenn. I assume Negan has already been dealt with in the comics so going to be hard to avoid hearing the outcome of this current story in the comic world, if they end up following the same route.

OTT.

Its a savage series set in a savage time but the pulping of heads was unnecessary.

That seems to be the general consensus, although I've read a lot of people expressing disappointment because Maggie wasn't raped for good measure. Unbelievable.

Wusses! That was the some of the most intense, devastating and heartbreaking TV ever. Made me FEEL something in the way most shows do not - traumatized yet ALIVE!

However, that's exactly what my dad said afterwards ^^

Turns out the 9pm showing last night was censored!

The 10pm "plus 1" showing was intact (as was the previous nights 2am showing) and includes one characters final dialogue snipped for 9pm.

Thankfully Virgin catch-up had the full version.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall, so everyone will be eager to see Negan get his comeuppance, which is presumably why he was set up as such a monolithic bad guy. I've known people who will victimise you to the point of destruction (though not with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, granted), so this episode struck a chord with me.

Still, there was more than a touch of the "you're not here to enjoy yourselves!" about the whole ep (46 minutes on Amazon, incidentally). That can alienate the audience, understandably.

So,

eyes hanging out, heads battered in with a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat, a kid's arm ordered to be severed, a corpse's body being dragged from the head,
but
a mild expletive was edited out?

How very American. :D

You should've spoiled that in case it puts people off.

I kind of gave up on the show in season 6....it became boring for me...kill zombies and fight with other humans not in your group was the plot every time . I was hoping they would put in some conspiracy stuff about the original virus or that there was a secret govt group somewhere or something different. I enjoyed the Colonel and his town where he experimented on some of the zombies...at least it was a change up.
Doesn't really matter to me who died.....it might be time to replace the whole cast...and alter the plot a little.

Yup, it's all about shooting the zombies. We Brits soon get bored with that response.

Yer average Brit'd deal with such a threat with an almost imperceptible sigh and then a knuckle butty or a kick up the arse.

Not to mention the fact that the whole zombie disease thing makes no sense....but then it never has in any zombie show.

o_O

We would invent a new game, sort of Zombie cricket skull smack with rules and sandwiches and tea. The rest of the world would pick it up except the USA who would have another game, with a similar name but using tanks or machine guns. They would call it a World Series even though they are the only ones playing it.

Have you watched Z Nation?

Quite savage as well but a strong line of dark humour running through it.

Season 3 is on Pick at present on Tuesdays 10 pm.

That's crazy considering the level of gratuitous violence. They had even substituted "balls" instead of "dick" in an attempt to get around the censors

I gave up on TWD after Season 4. I loved the original premise but it stagnated very quickly for me. I tried Fear The Walking Dead too, to see if it would look at the whole thing from a different angle. But the first season of that was terrible.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for the real thing.

There's a low quality clip of
Maggie
being killed by Negan, instead of
Abraham
, doing the rounds. It allegedly leaked just prior to the season 7 premier on Sunday night. It plays out exactly the same as the first death, with one blow from "Lucille" followed by Negan's "taking it like a champ" spiel before
Maggie
defiantly spits a mouthful of blood at him.

Wouldn't surprise me if they filmed a few variations to throw off any spoilers leaking.

Agreed .. It's all gone Star Trek - The Next Generation for me Ringo ... zombie lite .. now I'm just waiting for Whoopie Goldberg to sit everyone down around a table so they can all openly discuss their feelings. The last episode I saw from the new batch had Rick being a vicious bastard which made sense after all he's been through but it's all dragging on a bit now ..
