German Police Patrol Without Pants to Protest Uniform Shortage

German police are facing a serious shortage of uniforms — the war in Ukraine is blamed — and officers protesting inaction from the top have gone trouserless to make the point.

The Bavarian branch of the Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft (German Police Trade Union, DPolG) is protesting a long term supply issue for their member officers which has left them unable to draw on replacement items of uniform, or newly commissioned police officers to get a full issue of uniform at all. According to the union some 21 regulation items including trousers, jackets, and hats are subject to a wait time of several months.

Creatively making the point that police officers are struggling with the lack of uniform clothing, the DPolG published a humorous video showing two police officers talking in a car before getting out to start their patrol, without their uniform trousers. In the short, one officer asks the other: “so, how long have you been waiting?”, and they discuss four to six month waits for uniform items.

The union said while the situation may sound like “the worst April Fool’s joke ever”, their officers are “literally left without pants”.

AI-generated Asians were briefly unavailable on Instagram

Oh noes!

“I was unable to generate any Asian people using the same prompts as the day before.

The tests I did yesterday were on Instagram, via the AI image generator available in direct messages. After dozens of tries, I was unable to generate a single accurate image using prompts like “Asian man and Caucasian friend” and “Asian man and white wife.” “

"The grain is just beautiful," says a bearded man standing in the forest, cradling a long, spiralling stick that he found on the ground.

"It's cascading down almost waterfall-eque," he says in a video review as he gently caresses the metre-long, helix-shaped branch with his finger, before bringing it in for a deep sniff.

"Smells like sage," he says approvingly. "Some eucalyptus in there, too."

The verdict is in. It's a 10/10 stick, says Utah's Boone Hogg, who, along with his buddy Logan Jugler, runs the popular Instagram account Official Stick Reviews.

"When we started the stick page, we felt that there must be other people out there who like sticks. And we were right," Hogg told As It Happens host Nil Köksal. "It felt kind of like being kids again."

Since they launched in August, more 43,000 followers have joined the online community they call "Stick Nation."

How climate change is hitting vulnerable Indonesian trans sex workers

Joya Patiha, a 43-year-old Indonesian transgender woman, first started to notice that changing weather patterns in the mountain-ringed city of Bandung were affecting her income as a sex worker a decade ago.

The rainy season was lasting longer across the West Java province, winds were stronger and in some particularly bad years Patiha lost up to 80% of her earnings.

Wow. That's why, when I had my deck replaced last year, I got a building permit. It wasn't near property line, but I don't want anyone disputing what I've done.

I did make a complaint about my neighbour who had eaves troughs totally unconnected to the house and holes through the side of his house where, years ago he took out a chimney and then put up a metal one supported by rail spikes (at least one of the four isn't supporting anything) and stuck a couple pieces of vinyl siding behind. The siding had fallen down and birds and squirrels had gone inside of walls to nest.

Just a couple of bylaw infractions , but if a fire starts, I'm right next to his house. He fixed the troughing, but never fixed anything with the chimney.

Do people not have property surveys? I have mine, though it is the original and probably some things have changed, but this should have helped settle the issue sooner, especially for the family that was being harassed.

French woman found dead in Italian church was searching for ghosts in possible Tik Tok stunt, police say

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/10/world/aosta-italy-french-woman-dead-scli-intl/index.html
---------------------------------------------------------
Rome, ItalyCNN —
A 22-year-old French woman whose blood-drained body was found in an abandoned church in northern Italy’s Aosta Valley over the weekend had been looking for a haunted house believed to contain ghosts, according to police.

She told family members about her plans before leaving the village near Lyon where she lived, a police spokeswoman in the town of La Salle told CNN.

Police believe the victim could have been attempting to carry out a TikTok stunt, adding that her death could be related to a ghost hunting competition being played in France on the social media platform. The other working theories are that it was a “consented murder” or sacrifice, or an attempt to carry out a social media prank in the deconsecrated church. Police are still searching for a young man who was seen with her. There are also two other missing persons cases in the area which police say could be related.

According to the spokeswoman, the victim and a male friend had been seen in the area dressed “like vampires.” A witness interviewed by police say the young woman was pale and “emaciated” and the man had dark hair and olive skin. The witness told police investigators that she looked like a “walking corpse.”

She bled to death. (I thought the same thing but in the article is said she was stabbed.) As usual, the details suggest an intention that may not be legitimate.
OK, that would explain it. I thought at first they were 'playing at being vampires'.

Viagra and other similar meds can be bought without a prescription in the UK - so they’re already recreational drugs if that’s how people choose to see them.

Couple find medieval relic hidden in bathroom

A couple scrubbing their toilet discovered a trapdoor concealing what could be a medieval relic.
Tracy and Rory Vorster, from Lincoln, made the discovery on Sunday.
When they removed the wooden panel, it revealed a large slab of stone featuring a carving of the Lincoln Imp.
The Civic Trust said it thought the opening could be part of an "elaborate drain" dating from the mid to late 14th Century.
