looks like I came in a bit late for this one but just to show I care...
basically anything by coil (hellraiser, how to destroy angels, the sea priestess, Red Birds Will Fly Out of the East and Destroy Paris in a Night, The Dreamer is Still Asleep, The First Five Minutes After Violent Death etc etc)
zombie - the cranberries
Language Is a Virus from Outer Space - laurie anderson
Strange Angels - "
every day is like sunday - morrissey
Meet Murder My Angel - Soft Cell
paradise now - meat beat manifesto
you mind belongs to the state - "
I got the fear - " (well if we can have paranoid)
MARRS NEEDS WOMEN - "
re-animator - "
god o.d. - "
HALLUCINATION GENERATION - you guessed it!
radio babylon - " (a bit obtuse maybe)
BRAINWASHED THIS WAY
ZOMBIE
SON OF SAM
FUTURE WORLDS - all same as above
impossible worlds - the shamen
voodoo people - the prodigy
voodoo child - jimi H
the wind cries mary - " (i think)
levitation, space chase, silver machine etc - hawkwind (so prog fans - didn't think of that one!)
probably everything by barclay james harvest (if I remember their album covers correctly!)
dreamspace - scorn
space oddity - bowie (no one mentioned that one either)
the man machine, the robots, radiation - kraftwerk
spaceman - baylon zoo
Strange Phenomena
The Man With The Child In His Eyes
Houdini
Waking The Witch
Rubberband Girl
Cloudbusting - all kate bush (I include the last purely because it's about wilhelm Reich of orgone fame)
Enough Already!!! I'll probably think of more...
I just had an idea for a similar thread - song lyrics. Sometimes the title of a song isn't fortean, but it's contents are. For an eg - radiohead's bulletproof - 'I can't help that feeling / I could float through the ceiling / but gravity always wins,' levitation!
Also, the asides about prog not being revived - what about radiohead, porcupine tree, beta band, smashing pumpkins etc. It all depends how you define prog. Does it mean any band with over ten members and a penchant for bathing in pure LSD? Or a band that stretches the conventions of modern day music (a la beck). Not the real place for such a discussion I know, but just wanted to throw my tuppence in.
