He forwarded a link to a video showing how to make a DIY, non-firing replica SMG and got prison time?

How much longer will l serve for posting a link to a perfectly legal UK shop where l can buy a ready-made, 100% accurate, blank-firing SMG?...

Okay - genuine question:

What's the difference between someone attacking a target while holding a replica submachine gun and someone attacking a target while wearing a fake bomb vest?

My own take:

Although not in itself lethal, the presentation of either item in such scenarios would clearly be a deliberate tactic to delay intervention while other more analogue - but still very lethal - attack techniques are actively deployed.

Although maybe not in and of itself suspicious, the acquisition of a particular item - when accompanied by statements based on an extreme ideology, celebrating other lethal events, and suggesting emulation - makes consideration of the above possibility not only reasonable, but essential.

I wasn't discussing the thought processes behind the actions, I was simply pointing out that a man has been sentenced to significant prison time principally for doing something that anyone in the UK could do better, and legally.

But was he a good cook? Vid at link.

Terror conviction after Walsall kitchen explosive test

A man filmed himself boasting about attempts to mix explosives in his kitchen. Vaughn Dolphin, 20, from Walsall was convicted of terrorism charges at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday. The jury heard he posted to far-right chatrooms about testing explosives in his kitchen.

In one video he wore a gas mask as he claimed it resulted in a fireball and filled the room with smoke.

West Midlands Police said he was intent on causing harm and sought out extremist conversations online. Dolphin will be sentenced on 11 May.

If you think this sentence is harsh it's worth noting that an islamist terrorist, same age and almost identical crime recently got a life sentence.

A right-wing extremist who scouted police stations for a terror attack has been jailed for four years.

Luke Skelton, 20, took pictures of targets and wrote about starting a race war that would kill thousands of people, Teesside Crown Court heard.

He was found guilty of one count of preparing a terrorist act.

Prosecutors said he was dangerous but his lawyers argued his autism made him vulnerable to radicalisation and he did not actually intend an attack.

Skelton, from Washington, was arrested in October 2021 a month after taking pictures of Forth Banks police station in Newcastle. He was found to have researched bomb making and used the username Adolf Hitler in online communications in which he espoused extremist views and discussed starting a race war.

Prosecutor Nick de la Poer KC said the chance of Skelton succeeding in a bomb attack was "not very likely" but some notes he wrote implied he wanted to enact a "significant terrorist atrocity".

One message talked about triggering a "racial war" for which he blamed the government, adding that the "number of dead" would be in the thousands.

The prosecutor also said these were not "impulsive" thoughts but a "preoccupation for a lengthy period of time".

Im so glad we are being protected from these people.

And you may interpret that how you like...

Im so glad we are being protected from these people.
Yes, I am also glad that we are being protected from all 5 (or is it 6) neo-nazis in this country.
Or maybe I've got that figure wrong?

I think you have got the numbers wrong. Take a look at previous posts on this thread, especially police comments at trials and why certain organisations were banned.

It does not invalidate the point I was making. The numbers are vanishingly small.

But not that small if 7 of then were convicted of terrorist offences over the last year. I don't think people would be so blasé about islamic terrorism.
Probably because that is a much bigger problem?

Islamists consistently get harsher sentences when convicted of the same crimes. I am no friend of Islamists! It's dangerous to underestimate the number or neo-nazis though.
Sure. Whatever. :)

A charming guy, called for Jews and Gays to be murdered.

An internet troll whose house was adorned with Nazi flags, fridge magnets and a portrait of Adolf Hitler has been jailed.

Samuel Doyle, 40, called for the killing of LGBTQ+ and Jewish people in online posts.

Officers then searched his home in Highfield Road, Glossop, and found fascist and racist manifestos and books, Derbyshire Police said.
He was jailed for three years at Manchester Crown Court on Monday.

The force said Doyle, of Highfield Road, came to the attention of officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands (CTPEM) after intelligence about his online activity was passed to them. Further inquiries then uncovered a large number of posts made by a username linked to Doyle, which led to his arrest in February 2022.

Following two no-comment interviews, Doyle was charged and admitted five counts of distributing or publishing written material to stir up racial hatred.

Det Insp Chris Brett, of CTPEM, said: "Freedom of speech is an important part of our shared British values - and something that is enshrined in law. However, those freedoms are not without limit and it is clear that the views Samuel Doyle expressed online stepped well over the line into criminality. The posts he wrote are abhorrent - calling directly for violent action to be taken against a number of minority groups."

"Some may say that posting online is different to expressing these views in person, but that is absolutely not the case. We have seen across the world how online posting of this nature has had serious 'real world' outcomes - including, sadly, fatalities."

"In recent years we have seen an increasing number of cases involving people who have been pulled into online hate speech and extremist views, and I would urge people who are concerned about family, friends or colleagues to come forward and report their behaviour."

The U.S. Anti-Defamation League has published that antisemitism is the highest in the U.S. since 1979.

One of the causes it seems that changing attitudes in that it is OK to hate anyone that is not like you such as AfroAmerican, Hispanic, Jewish, and Asian.

This is really sad.

I agree that the number of neo-nazis is likely very small. However, if some are planning terrorist attacks and a few manage to carry them out it won't be of much comfort to victims or their families if the police had ignored them because there were only a few.

I'm not saying they and their activities should be ignored, I'm just saying that the media inflates the problem that they represent.

US Congress disagreed in recent years with reference to domestic terrorism on US soil. Act S. 894 (116th): Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019 explicitly states:

"...Government Accountability Office report on the significant, lethal threat posed by domestic violent extremists explained that “since September 12, 2001, the number of fatalities caused by domestic violent extremists has ranged from 1 to 49 in a given year.” The report noted: “[F]atalities resulting from attacks by far right wing violent extremists have exceeded those caused by radical Islamist violent extremists in 10 of the 15 years, and were the same in 3 of the years since September 12, 2001. Of the 85 violent extremist incidents that resulted in death since September 12, 2001, far right wing violent extremist groups were responsible for 62 (73 percent) while radical Islamist violent extremists were responsible for 23 (27 percent)...”

In the UK and Europe the attention now given various threats is roughly split 70:30 ish towards Islamist : Extreme right (if I have understood the data correctly). I would guess that the Schengen travel area and relative proximity to Middle Eastern/Arabian regions is a factor:

"...Islamist terrorism is currently the largest terrorist threat faced by the UK in volume making up around three quarters of MI5’s caseload. Extreme right-wing terrorism almost exclusively represents the remaining threat. Across ideologies, the threat is dominated by individuals or small groups acting outside of organised terrorist groups, making it harder to detect and investigate..."

"...This EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report (TE-SAT), which Europol has produced each year since 2007, provides an overview of the failed, foiled and completed attacks in the EU, as well as of terrorism-related arrests, convictions and penalties.

The report addresses terrorism in all its forms, namely:

  • Jihadist terrorism
  • Ethno-nationalist and separatist terrorism
  • Left-wing and anarchist terrorism
  • Right-wing terrorism
  • Single-issue terrorism..."

No popguns, peashooters or other worrying devices?

Perhaps you might reread this,

This would cover neo-naziz and islamists, though we could use the term islamo-fascists.

Teenagers who share extremist content online are risking a prison sentence without leaving their bedrooms, the head of Counter Terrorism Policing has said.

Matt Jukes also told the BBC officers were seeing more online hatred spill over into “real threats of violence on the streets”.

Under-18s accounted for 14 per cent of all terrorism-related arrests in the UK in the year to March 2023, down from a record 15 per cent in the previous 12 months, Home Office figures show.

It marks a significant rise on 2019/20, when it was 5 per cent.

Some 24 people under the age of 18 were arrested for terror-related activity in the year to March 2023, down from 29 in the previous 12 months.

The overall number of terror arrests in the UK has been on a downward path in recent years, dropping from a record 447 in 2017/18 to 169 in 2022/23.

Mr Jukes described the rise in the number of younger terror suspects since 2019 as a “really worrying trend”.

He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “The really remarkable thing is now that literally, you can find yourself with a prison sentence not having left that bedroom, because of encouraging, inciting, sharing information, downloading bomb instructions and encouraging other people to take part in acts of violence. And sadly we’re seeing more of this translate into real threats of violence on the streets.”

Yes, that is most likely true in America.
And they have access to guns too.

A Satanist Neo-Nazi!

A convicted Satanist neo-Nazi in the UK who was spared jail as a teenager has now been imprisoned for three years and two months after admitting a string of fresh crimes.

Harry Vaughan, from Twickenham, south-west London, was 18 when he admitted 14 terror offences and two of possessing indecent images of children.

He developed an interest in right-wing extremism, Satanism, the occult, and violence after disappearing “down a rabbit hole of the internet” from the age of 14, the Old Bailey heard previously.

In November 2020, Mr Justice Sweeney handed Vaughan a two-year suspended sentence along with a 60-day rehabilitation order and a terrorist notification order for 10 years.

The court previously heard that the defendant was arrested at his family home on June 19th 2019 in a counter-terror probe into Fascist Forge – an online forum used by extreme, right-wing militants.

So he was spared jail & received a two year suspended sentence for the earlier terrorism offences for which he pleaded guilty.

He’s been jailed for

making an indecent photograph of a child in September 2022.

He also admitted three charges of possessing extreme pornographic videos, three counts of failing to comply with a Serious Crime Prevention Order and three breaches of his notification order.

The breaches, which began just a month after his original sentence, related to failing to tell authorities about an email address and details of cryptocurrency accounts.

Now in relation to the newer offences, Vaughan has been jailed for 38 months and was handed a serious crime prevention order of five years at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

So, no one has been able to (bothered??) to change his mind?

He'll have a tough time in prison.

A prison officer who ran a fitness club for fascists has been jailed for eight years for possessing a white supremacist "murder manual".

Ashley Podsiad-Sharp, from Barnsley, kept the handbook - containing detailed advice on how to kill people in a race war - in an encrypted hard drive. He was convicted at trial of possessing a document likely to be useful in preparing an act of terrorism.

The 43-year-old worked at HMP Armley in Leeds until his arrest in May 2022.

Passing sentence at Sheffield Crown Court Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said Podsiad-Sharp was "extremely dangerous" and must also serve an additional five years on licence following his release from prison.
