Strange Crimes

Man Damaged Police Station with Chainsaw, Dangled Children Near Window

Police say a man tried to cut through a door at the station Sunday with a chainsaw before barricading himself at his house in Cohasset, Massachusetts.

Brien-Buckley-640x480.jpg

Brien Buckley, who is scheduled to appear in court Monday, allegedly drove over the police station’s lawn and hit a tree on the property.

He then exited the truck and went inside the lobby, revving a gas powered chainsaw which he is accused of using to damage the room and cut at the security door.

A civilian desk attendant at the station fled for safety and locked herself inside an office where she hit the panic button, prompting officers to respond.

In a social media post on Sunday, the department said the man eventually fled the station in his truck:

While officials tried to deescalate the situation, SWAT team members and hostage negotiators arrived to assist.

Several hours later, the man became erratic “…to the point where SWAT supervisors sought permission to enter the home due to the increasingly clear and present danger to the children. Permission was granted by Cohasset Commanders, and the suspect was taken into custody after resisting arrest.”

The children were brought safely out of the house and united with their mother and grandfather. Meanwhile, officers used a taser to subdue the suspect.

The suspect faces charges including assault by means of a dangerous weapon, two counts of child endangerment, resisting arrest, driving to endanger, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and three counts of damage to property.

I can't cut and paste from the article, but it states that he dangled his two children in front of the window and after several hours of trying to negotiate with the man, police decided the children were at risk and they had to ask permission to enter the home. WTF?

He now faces fraud and extortion charges

A US preacher who was robbed at gunpoint of more than $1m (£840,000) in jewellery during a livestreamed sermon in New York has been indicted on charges of fraud and extortion.

He is accused of defrauding a parishioner out of her retirement savings, attempting to extort a businessman and lying to the FBI.

Mr Whitehead was arrested on Monday and will appear in federal court, the department of justice said in a press release.
The money allegedly taken from the parishioner - around $90,000 - was spent on "luxury goods and clothing", the documents say.

The charges against him could see him imprisoned for up to 20 years if he is convicted.

According to the New York Post, items taken from him and his wife included Rolex and Cavalier watches, a $25,000 Episcopal ruby and diamond ring, a $25,000 pair of earrings and even his wedding band.

Bizarre.

A man who admitted deliberately killing a motorcyclist was caught by his own dashcam footage, police said.

Paul Barrett, 43, of White Road in Mere, rammed Ryan Brindley's motorbike on 22 December 2021. He seemingly targeted Mr Brindley "entirely at random" and was charged after police viewed "footage from the car Barrett was driving". Barrett pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility at Winchester Crown Court. He had been repeatedly driving through Dinton, Wiltshire, at more than double the speed limit before targeting the 43-year-old motorcyclist.

Mr Brindley died at the scene of the collision on Hindon Road and was described by his family as "one-of-a-kind".

Girl gets trapped in claw machine after trying to steal teddy bears

A four-year-old girl’s plan to pilfer teddy bears from a claw machine backfired horribly after she ended up trapped inside the crane contraption.

“My partner was shocked but I just started laughing,” her mother Melanie Pike said of the im-prize-onment, which occurred while she was with her family at a pub in Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia.

Her daughter Poppy attempted to nab some teddy bears from a claw machine on a dare from her twin sister. However, the tot’s attempted toy heist went sideways after she infiltrated an opening in the glass box like a pee-wee jewel thief and couldn’t figure out how to escape.

Thankfully, the parent was able to save Poppy by having her sit down in the machine and then gently yanking her through the opening she had squeezed herself in through.

Six people have been charged over the kidnapping of a group of people linked to the world of cockfighting in the Philippines.

The group of six is thought to have been abducted on their way to a fight in the capital Manila in January. It's part of a wave of mysterious disappearances to hit the industry, which is a popular betting sport. Taxes from livestreamed cockfights helped the government replenish its finances after the Covid pandemic. But former President Rodrigo Duterte eventually banned online fights, while allowing traditional cockfighting to resume.

The six suspects reportedly deny the allegations.

Meanwhile, three former police officers have also been charged with allegedly abducting a cockfighting enthusiast from his house in August 2021, according to the AFP news agency. The victim had been accused of running a fake betting website, AFP reports.

The charges come as at least 27 people connected to the lucrative industry remain missing, but hope of finding people alive is fading.

"I wouldn't even want to call them missing cockfighters, but probably dead cockfighters," Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla said this week. ...

This Indiana man killed and partially dismembered what he believed to be a robot that had replaced his father.
‘It’s a robot that looks like a human’ Lawrence County man charged with killing, mutilating father

A Lawrence County man faces charges after police say he killed and mutilated his father, who he believed to be a robot.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the case against Shawn Hays says deputies responded to a welfare check on December 20 at Hay’s Mitchell home. Police say they got a call from someone who said Hays told them that Hay’s father was turned into a robot, so Hays shot and mutilated him.

The call comes about a week after various Facebook accounts linked to Hays detail a variety of alarming and troubling thoughts. In one post, written only a week before the deadly shooting, Hays declared distrust in his father writing that he believed someone had kidnapped or murdered his father and replaced him with “a robot that looks like my dad.” ...

The document details that when police arrived, they saw Hays trying to back out of the driveway. When they asked about his father, police say Hays told them that it wasn’t his father, but was instead a robot that looked like his father.

Police asked Hays where his father was, and the document said Hays gestured toward the residence, directly behind the vehicle. Police say he got combative when they asked him to get out of the truck.

During the argument, the document says Hays told police “It’s a robot that looks like a human…laying over there. I had to shoot at it to destroy it.”

After arrested Hays, officers found his father in front of the residence, dead from apparent gunshot wounds to his head and chest. The document said his body was found to be mutilated and partially dismembered. ...

Chainsaw attack at the police station door ( I feel bad for the desk lady who ran and hid and hit the panic button - i imagine it was really frightening ) . .......Jeez......Sounds completely unhinged does that guy. USA seem to be tougher on crime than over here, longer sentences and such, hopefully this guy will be locked up for some time as he seems to be a classic case of someone who is a real danger to the public.

Someone has been strewing nails and excrement along a residential street.
There's surely a story here.

Police called in over man 'dropping poo and nails' on street

Police are investigating after reports of a man 'dropping poo and nails' along a terrace street. Officers probing the 'disgusting behaviour' on Crewe's Bright Street have issued a CCTV image of an individual they'd like to speak to in connection with the issue.

Residents say the behaviour has been 'ongoing for some time' and has resulted in a car tyre being punctured. Now neighbourhood officers have hit out at the 'disgusting behaviour' which is 'having a detrimental impact on the local community'.

Cheshire Police say a report was received just after 12.30pm on December 17 of a man walking along the street where he had been 'depositing faeces and nails along the road'.

Stay classy, Crewe.

Sleeping driver drives for 15 minutes at 110 km/h on Autobahn

Police in Germany pulled a motorist off the road who had fallen asleep on the Autobahn and continued driving for 15 minutes. Officers tried to wake the man up with honking, but it took some time before they were successful.

The remarkable incident was Wednesday on a highway near Bamberg in Bavaria. Police wanted to check the man, but he did not respond to light signals. The officers noticed that at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour, the man kept the same distance from their police car at all times. The driver appeared to be asleep and did not have his hands on the wheel. The autopilot of his Tesla did allow him to stay on the road.

After about fifteen minutes, the man awoke. He then did follow police directions. When checked, the driver exhibited behavior that police believe is consistent with drug use. He also appeared to have a weight attached to the steering wheel. This caused the software to believe that he did have his hands on the steering wheel.

The man was charged with reckless driving. He has lost his driver's license for the time being.

Ermenildo Castro, 28, of Tacoma, allegedly told detectives that he was inspired by the 90's movie "Office Space" when he devised a plan to divert customer fees from his employer, Zulily.com, into his own bank accounts. According to court documents, Castro wrote software code that manipulated the online retailer's checkout page to send the shipping fees into his own account. The charges allege Castro netted $260,000 in stolen shipping fees. Seattle police detectives said Castro also used his position as a software engineer to manipulate prices on Zulily to purchase approximately $41,000 in merchandise for 'pennies on the dollar'.

According to police, the company's cybersecurity staff found a document on Castro's laptop titled 'OfficeSpace project', which outlined Castro's scheme to 'cleanup evidence' by manipulating audit logs and disabling alarm logging. The theft began in February and by March the company had identified discrepancies in the shipping fees being charged to customers, an SPD report states. Castro was part of the team assigned to investigate the discrepancies in shipping fees, according to the report. Zulily investigators eventually caught on to Castro's scheme and went to his house in Tacoma where they found boxes of merchandise piled up outside the front door and driveway, the report states. In total, Zulily's team said Castro had sent over 1,000 items sent to his house.

California man under arrest for attempted murder after police say he allegedly intentionally drove off a cliff with 1 woman and 2 children in car

All four occupants of the Tesla survived the crash on Monday after the car plunged between 250 and 300 feet below the road it was on and into a rocky beach area known as Devil’s Slide, about 20 miles south from San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In addition to the driver, an adult woman, a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were in the car when the crash happened Monday morning, according to Brian Pottenger, a battalion chief with Cal Fire’s Coastside Fire Protection District.

They were all taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, the highway patrol said Tuesday. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office previously said in a social media post that the children were “unharmed.”
“Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act,” the state’s highway patrol said in a news release Tuesday announcing the driver’s arrest.

The driver, from Pasadena, California, was arrested for attempted murder and child endangerment, according to the arrest report. He will be formally booked into San Mateo County Jail after his hospital treatment is completed, the highway patrol added.

The four-door, white Tesla was traveling southbound on Highway 1 just south of the Tom Lantos Tunnel between Pacifica and Montara on Monday morning when it veered off the roadway. It plunged at least 250 feet below that road, and a dramatic rescue mission ensued to ensure the occupants were taken out of the car safely.

“The damage to the vehicle would indicate that it hit, and then flipped several times,” Pottenger explained. The car came to rest on its wheels, he added.

On Tuesday, the highway patrol pointed out that Tesla’s tech savvy driving features were not involved in what caused the crash.
