This one's for Mytho (have we got a competitive food eating thread?)

I do watch Beard Meats Food occasionally.
That place in the video is not that far from where my Dad grew up.

The European Union has given the green light for two more species of insect to be used as food for humans.

As of Tuesday, a powdered form of Acheta domesticus — better known as the house cricket — will be given the green light for human consumption within the European Union, documents from the body have confirmed.

This is soon to be followed by further approval for the sale and consumption of the larval form of Alphitobius diaperionus — also known as the lesser mealworm — which will be given the green light for human consumption in frozen, paste, dried and powder forms within the European Union later this week.

Sometimes, knowing that we can doesn't mean we should...I 'appen ter like my housebound crickets - and they happen to like my laundry and bathroom.

Not sure if this has been posted before but do you get anything much weirder as food?

Starbucks has launched a new drink that mixes coffee with olive oil, offering it initially in Italy as an alternative to the more standard espresso or cappuccino. The so-called "Oleato" beverages are made with arabica coffee "infused with a spoonful of Partanna cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil," Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain, said in a statement.

I've eaten guinea pig, and it looked a lot like that.
My nephew ate one at a wedding in Ecuador, years ago. He wasn't right for a couple of years afterwards - it's possible that he'd acquired a parasite or infection from it. He got better after his wife (a nurse) made him change his diet. He's fine now.

You can get insect burgers in Lidl

You’ve probably heard of burger patties – but what about bugger patties?

In a move sure to divide customer opinions, Lidl Ireland is now selling “Soya and Insect” burgers as part of their My Street Food range.

The burgers, which sell in packs of two for €2.99 each, are made from “textured soya flour and ground dried mealworm larva,” and are labelled “insect burgers” in stores.

The products’ packaging warns that it “may cause allergic reactions” in customers with have allergies to molluscs, dust mites, or crustaceans.

What symptoms did he have? How did he change his diet? Did he see a doctor about the possibility of a parasite or infection?

Do I have to go round there with a chair and a spotlight?

This sort of accident evokes a morbid interest in me; people on holiday try things they'd never even consider at home, and if they're unlucky it all goes wrong.

Constant diarrhoea, tummy upsets. Like IBS, really. He lost a bit of weight.
Doctors checked him out and gave him antiparasitic meds as a precaution, but they didn't find anything.
He changed to a completely bland diet.
He's the picture of health now.

I keep telling people, anal leakage is not your friend....

That, and loose lips sink ships.....
Remember Olestra, the miracle fat substitute? It was supposed to make everyone slim by reducing the calories in their food.
Instead it gave consumers diarrhoea and anal leakage.

What a bargain.

Glad he's OK now.
I wonder what it actually was? There's a PhD in that.
