It's Nessie's snorkel! That solves that mystery.

Congratulations, you have encountered the strange and mystical beast that is called a bird, which is clearly having a swim whilst making fools such as yourselves believe that Nessie is on the premises, I pity you of your stupidity! And by the way I am not a skeptic of the world of the paranormal, I just do not believe the footage you took of Loch Ness are that of Nessie

Dunno what to make of it. Could it be a submerged tree branch?

I want this Nessie soup ladle :p ... a bit pricey though

Bloke on the front page of the paper this morning, a man who is in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest monster vigil and spends his days looking out of his caravan at the loch, has finally drawn the conclusion that Nessie is a breed of giant catfish, and also that it's almost died out there, which explains the tailing off of sightings. Maybe we just didn't believe enough?

Another Nessie story on the front of the paper this morning, telling us The Aetherius Society has a house near the shore because they consider it a sacred site. Which they bought... forty years ago. First with the news, there.

What is he going to do for the rest of his life? Time to retire?

Steve Feltham, the man who gave up everything to live by the loch and find evidence of the monster now believes it's most likely a monster Wels catfish. He thinks they were introduced by the Victorians which would explain the later sightings at a peak growth cycle in the twenties and thirties.

Case closed?

Well a monster fish is certainly more likely than some other sorts of monster.

As regards a Wels, this blog http://lochnessmystery.blogspot.co.uk/ is sceptical and says

"As it turns out, there is as much evidence for catfish in Loch Ness as there is for plesiosauri in Loch Ness. Some newspapers were suggesting that Steve would now bow out of monster hunting, as if the mystery had finally been solved. That won't happen and as Steve suggested, the theory is fluid and could be ditched by him the next day. Steve has toyed with this idea for years now and this is not the first time he has been (mis)quoted on this theory."

Apparently it's not a new theory either & was brought up as early as the 30s..

Must be a little chilly for reptiles in recent years.

It wouldn't hang about long after it had scoffed its entire food source, would it?

Yeah, I suppose the fact they died out millions of years ago is probably more of a factor.

According to this article, Nessie was made up by a PR man.

Was Nessie just the invention of a boozy London pub lunch by hoteliers keen to drum up custom for Scottish hotels?
  • The monster was invented as a PR stunt by consultant DG Gerahty
  • He dreamed up the idea whilst having a drink in a pub in London
  • Claims made by academic who said monster was designed to improve tourism in north-east Scotland

The much loved and mysterious Loch Ness monster may have been invented by a cunning British public relations consultant, who dreamed up the idea of the creature in a London pub.

The claims were made in a new book which suggests the story of the monster was started to encourage people to visit the Scottish Highland following the difficult years of the Great Depression.

The monster was invented by DG Gerahty, who was recruited by several Scottish hotels to improve the area's tourism, claimed Professor Gareth Williams.

The emeritus professor of medicine at the University of Bristol and science historian suggested that the £30 million tourism trade generated from visitors going to the Loch Ness is built on a PR trick.

Professor Williams suggested that the answer to the story behind the monster may lie in a short extract from a semi-autobiographical novel called Marise.

From what I know, there does seem to have been a lack of Nessie sightings betwern St Columbo and the 1800s.

Eccentric California detective - Columbo.

Old Celtic saint - Columba! :p
