As I have mentioned in a past post. He especially adored bulls' bollocks.

Another bit of testing spam which also serves to spread some fraudelent facts (I wont spoil things by esplaining which UL is about to make a walk-on appearance below.)

Quoted Email:
------
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before looking at the response for this one..

Question 2:
It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three candidates.

Candidate A.
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists.
He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 Martinis a day.

Candidate B.
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C

He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife.

Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first... no peeking, then scroll down for the response.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question: If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven. ...

I love those "surveys". They manage to be misleading and patronising at the same time, which can't be an easy trick to pull off. "Congratulations, you've just killed Beethoven", indeed. What a load of old tosh.

Is the UL in question the old "Hitler was a vegetarian" thing? I take it he wasn't, then?

Apparently he had meat everyday usually in the form of sausage, but who knows.

Actually, I'm not that sure if Hitler's vegetarianism qualifies as a UL ... There appears to be evidence for and against. A random googling from either side:

http://www.geocities.com/hitlerwasavegetarian/

http://www.slate.com/id/2096259/

But, at the root of the matter, it seems to boil down to a number of tricky problems, most obviously whether he ever managed to cut meat completely out of his diet, but also why he did it and what it means to 'be' vegetarian. So stating that Hitler was a vegetarian' without a handful of footnotes and references may or may not be untrue.

Didn't mythchaser mention it a while back, though?

hitler was gassed in ww1 and later worked for some kind of army intelligence group which is how he ended up joining the NSDAP, so far as i recall from history lessons anyways.

Hitler's niece Geli Raubal committed suicide in 1930 (?), and there were rumors of a sexual affair, but this was never proved. Unity Mitford attempted suicide because Hitler expressed no romantic interest in her. Eva Braun and Hitler seem to have suicided together.

I have absolutely no interest in defending this evil man, but history is clear that Hitler was an exemplary soldier during the bloodiest trench fighting of World War One, serving as an effective and dependable field-courier under heavy enemy fire.

Tidbit: Hitler reputedly read the entirety of Schopenhauer while under constant bombardment in the trenches. That ought to be enough to ruin anybody.

EDIT - I originally wrote "Charity Mitford," Unity's non- and indeed anti-Nazi sister.

Just a wee correction:

It was Unity Valkyrie Mitford, and I think she actually attempted suicide because England declared war on Germany (or when Germany invaded Poland) not because of spurned love. It was definitely when war became inevitable that she tried to top herself. She was always devoted to Hitler and could get away with lots of jokes when no one else would dare - there are some very disturbing photos of the two of them sharing a giggle.

Unitywas a bit jealous of Eva Braun though - even though she thought her a bit of a commoner (a shop girl who developed photos in her uncle's establishment or something).

Thanks for the correction. I've changed the name above.

Today's Anti-Smoking Purge Is Borrowed From The Nazis
Smoking is healthier than fascism

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
Wednesday, April 25, 2007

... Beginning in the early 1930's, as part of the Nazi agenda for racial purity, Hitler spearheaded a national campaign to ban smoking in all public buildings, and denounced the practice as a betrayal of the fascist drive for bodily purity. ...

... Hitler was an ardent vegetarian and did not smoke or drink after the age of 30, even accrediting the rise of fascism to his success in kicking the habit. He forbade anyone from smoking in a room he might enter. Fellow fascist leaders Mussolini, Napoleon and Franco also detested smoking. ...

I'm reading the great (but rather horrid) Hitler biography by Ian Kershaw and have reached the period between the Austrian "Anschluss" and the Chamberlain fiasco. There are a lot of weird facts mentioned that would fit the Fortean agenda ...

But - for something completely different - today at mealtime I was wondering if someone had ever published Hitler's favorite recipes. A few Google searches and half an hour in the "Dark Underworld of Cooking" gave me a few new weird facts:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_of_Adolf_Hitler

This does sound a bit boring:
His lunch and dinner consist, therefore, for the most part of soup, eggs, vegetables and mineral water, although he occasionally relishes a slice of ham and relieves the tediousness of his diet with such delicacies as caviar, luscious fruits, and similar titbits. He is outspoken about having a sweet tooth and loves confectionery, especially chocolates.

This sounds much more interesting:
Even in his meatless diet Hitler is something of a gourmet—as Sir John Simon and Anthony Eden were surprised to note when they dined with him in the Presidial Palace at Berlin. His Bavarian chef, Herr Kannenberg, contrives an imposing array of vegetarian dishes, savoury and rich, pleasing to the eye as well as to the palate, and all conforming to the dietic standards which Hitler exacts."
http://www.vegsource.com/berry/hitler.html

This site mentions one favorite dish and a recipe - but not one I would care to try:
On one of my book hunting forays, I found a copy of Dione Lucas's Gourmet Cooking School Cookbook in a second hand book shop. Blowing off the dust and cobwebs that had settled on its covers, I opened it and turned to page 89. There, as plain as the Chaplinesque mustache on the Fuhrer's face, was Hitler's favorite recipe.

"I learned this recipe when I worked as a chef before World War II, in one of the large hotels in Hamburg, Germany. I do not mean to spoil your appetite for stuffed squab (a game bird), but you might be interested to know that it was a great favorite with Mr. Hitler, who dined at the hotel often. Let us not hold that against a fine recipe though."

One more link

Here again it sounds rather uninspiring:
A florid charlatan, Morell took an intense interest in the Fuhrer's digestion. On 9 August 1941 he recorded that Hitler's lunch was "ice-cream, boiled potatoes and strawberries". On 10 August it was "an asparagus salad" and the day after, "gruel, porridge, strawberries".

Hitler had an unattractive obsession with wind. On 3 July 1943, Dr Morell records, "the Fuhrer mentioned how much he would like pea and bean soups and such like, but he doesn't dare because of flatulence". Sure enough, on 30 December 1944, the leader indulged himself with a green pea soup and suffered "a queasy stomach with gaseous build-up".

FWIW, Hitler was a vegetarian himself. So, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Disputed in the Mythconceptions column in FT a few years ago. If l remember correctly his favourite dish was squab.

I didn't know what a squab was until I encountered it with Indy.

Ah! l was Googling your (initially) confusing response before my spacky Internet connection coughed up your graphic. All is now clear.

According to William L Schirer, in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, he became one (vegetarian) after his niece died, if memory serves, in the late 1920's or the early 1930's. I admit that I can't recall them, but I have seen this asserted in other works on Hitler as well.

I've often seen Hitler's vegetarianism stated as a fact, and would have concurred with your statement had it not been for the Mythconceptions article.

So then there seems to be conflicting statements as to whether or not he was. My point was that simply because the shooter at youtube was a vegetarian, it does not show that she was not an admirer of Hitler. Charles Manson was an admirer of Herr Schickelgruber as well and it was well-known that he (Manson) was vegetarian.

I know ... of the myth about Hitler (whose biographer recorded his favourite foods as "Turtle soup, Pigeon and Bavarian Wurst") being vegetarian. This nonsense originated with the National Socialist Party wanting to give the impression that Der Führer was a noble Aryan ascetic who eschewed all carnal pleasures to devote himself entirely to the Third Reich. The propaganda was a godsend for those who promote meat consumption though and persists to this day to discredit vegetarianism and veganism.
