I had cake yesterday, first confectionery to pass my lips since the diabetes diagnosis.

It was my birthday so I was taken out and fussed over by Escet and partner. Had a great time - trains, canals, an Elizabethan manor tour, food, industrial history, even a sneaky look round a charity shop.

Birthday cake doesn't count. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You've been gone for so long I've been diagnosed as diabetic and can't eat cake any more.

Except possibly ones made from that fake sugar, the sort that gives you uncontrollable flatulence and even diarrhoea.

I do like a treat.
