A cooking oil spillage on the northern part of the M25 motorway has caused huge queues for nearly 24 hours.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to reports of a lorry crash on the motorway in Enfield, north London, at 11:15 BST on Tuesday.
National Highways said two lanes and entry slip roads were re-opened just before 11:00 on Wednesday. No-one was injured in the incident, but miles of stationary traffic have been captured on camera by commuters.

Half a tonne of weed spilled across road​

In Missouri.

‘Troopers responded to a crash today on I-70 in Callaway County and found 500 pounds of packaged marijuana scattered around,’ the highway patrol wrote. ‘Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.’

‘You don’t see this everyday, but it is 4/20…’ the Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted in reference 420, the annual day celebrating cannabis.

The highway patrol believes that a semitrailer driver was trying to avoid a previous crash, and that a pickup truck driver at that moment lost control and hit the rear of the semitrailer. Another semitrailer flew off the road and then struck the pickup truck, the TV station reported.

Two men from Mexico, aged 34 and 32, were arrested and charged with first-degree drug trafficking

There were frozen pies all over an Interstate in Illinois, causing traffic delays for hours.

Illinois State Police said there were hours of delays Monday morning after an overturned semi trailer spilled 7,700 pounds of frozen pies onto a stretch of highway.

The ISP said the truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 about 2:45 a.m. Monday when the vehicle entered the center median and rolled over onto the driver's side ...

No injuries were reported from the crash ...

Both westbound lanes of I-80 were closed until about 7:45 a.m., causing several hours of delays.

Emergency responders and public employees responded to a road in New Jersey when a truck spilled up to 150 gallons of tahini sesame oil into a roadway.

The Newton Fire Department said in a Facebook post that crews responded alongside the Newton Police Department, Sussex County HazMat and Newton Department of Public Works when a truck carrying tahini -- an oil condiment made from crushed sesame seeds -- leaked onto a roadway. ...

At least 12 people died and 251 were injured in a chlorine gas leak from a storage tank at Jordan's Aqaba port, officials and state media reported on Monday.

The leak came after a tank filled with 25 tonnes of chlorine gas being exported to Djibouti fell while being transported, officials said.

There was a prompt response to this California "hazardous materials" spill, but I'm left wondering what sort of "milk mixture" it was that represented a hazard.

Doors of the Bavarian Meat Products have been shuttered since October 2021. The owners left behind hooks, freezers and shelves filled with meat, which has attracted swarms of flies and created a stench that wafts through the neighbourhood.

David Ladouceur, owner of Winmar Property Restoration, said his team was hired by the property owners to clean up the mess, and had already hauled away tonnes of meat. He likened the total to filling up about seven 20-cubic-yard dumpsters.

"I'm certain that people out there have had a freezer that died on them and the contents of that freezer have spoiled," Ladoucer said. "You then get an idea of what that's like — the smells that come across it, the way things start to look after a certain period of time.

"Except this is 14,000 square feet." ...

Ed Francouer, supervisor of North Bay's landfill, confirmed the spoiled meat is destined for the site, where it will be treated and covered. He estimated the load weighs around eight tonnes, with more expected to arrive in the coming days.

Mysterious purple cloud ominously descends upon Chilean city​


Residents of Pozo Almonte, Chile, awoke to an ominous purple cloud hanging low over their city Sunday morning.

Citizens were alarmed by the mysterious cloud and lodged numerous complaints to local officials, who began an investigation.

Officials in Chile claim the cloud was caused by a pump failure at the Cala Cala mine owned by the Saltpeter and Iodine Company which allowed for iodine vapor to seep out. Iodine turns purple when it is heated to a gaseous state.

“We are carrying out an inspection, which tells us that this incident was due to the failure of a motor of the impeller pump,” Christian Ibanez, deputy head of Chile’s Tarapaca Region [said].

Three tractor-trailer rollover accidents provided Mexican locals in different places two chances to make off with free beer and earn some extemporaneous income by collecting and transferring a load of avocados.
Rollovers mean free beer in Oaxaca and Sonora

There was free beer in Sonora and Oaxaca Thursday after two tractor-trailer rollovers left spilled cargo to the delight of local residents, who helped themselves.

The first accident took place on Highway 200 between Pochutla and Huatulco after a truck hauling beer collided with an El Sur bus. Locals soon arrived to carry away the beer. Local media reported that the truck was attempting to pass the bus but lost control. There were no casualties reported.

The second accident occurred near Guaymas, Sonora, after the driver reportedly dozed off at the wheel, losing control. There was extensive damage to the truck and its cargo, but area residents were still able to recover some undamaged bottles of beer that survived the incident as National Guardsmen looked on. ...

I discovered that a whole 5 litre container of pink 'hand soap' had emptied itself from a faulty dispenser in the toilets at a school I was working in once.
Trying to clean that up was a challenge I can tell you, because, of course, as soon as it got wet it was trying to foam up.

Alfredo sauce spill partially closes I-55 in Memphis

Northbound Interstate 55 near McLemore is closed Tuesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer wreck created a big mess.

The wreck was reported at 4:43 p.m.

TDOT video from the scene showed alfredo sauce spilled across the road.

Police and fire crews did not confirm what the truck was carrying, but a WREG reporter on the scene confirmed that the truck was carrying jars of Five Brothers alfredo sauce. ...

Authorities have not said how long it will take to clean up the spill.
