Strange Deaths

A security guard shouldn't be 'tackling' anyone. OK, it must be frustrating when shoplifters seem to walk in and out with impunity but vigilante behaviour isn't the answer.

Security guards assault and detain people all of the time. The only time there are consequences are when someone is seriously injured/dies or the shopper is wrongly excused.

So true. Still wrong. They're not even supposed to lay a hand on a suspect.

Not true - they are allowed to use reasonable force to detain until the police arrive.

That doesn't include flooring them though...

Interesting story with maybe....perhaps...some international political intrigue.

The Strange Case Of The Russian Diplomat Who Got His Head Smashed In On Election Day
How did Sergei Krivov die? And why did the NYPD close the case?

NEW YORK — He was found just before 7 a.m. on Election Day, lying on the floor of the Russian Consulate on the Upper East Side.

The man was unconscious and unresponsive, with an unidentified head wound — “blunt force trauma,” in cop parlance. By the time emergency responders reached him, he was dead.

Initial reports said the nameless man had plunged to his death from the roof of the consulate. As journalists rushed to the scene, consular officials quickly changed the narrative. The anonymous man had not fallen dozens of feet from the roof of the consular building, they said, but rather had suffered a heart attack in the security office, and died.

Was the strange death someone who fell off their chair laughing at the World Weekly News story and hit their head? :p

Was the strange death someone who fell off their chair laughing at the World Weekly News story and hit their head? :p

Believe it or not, this was one their "normal" stories in that issue. :p

Other stories in that issue:
"I finally found my long-lost sister - and she's a man!",
"Bride passes gas at the altar - and drops dead of embarrassment",
"Woman chews same piece of gum - since 1960!",
"200,000 year old baby found in moon rocks!"

I will post this here as the incident eventually led to the poor mans demise.
when i was a kid - approx 10 yrs old, there was a poor man who lived near us, who unfortunately and horribly fell into a vat of molten zinc, (this was at the old avro works in chadderton near oldham) he was pulled out by colleagues and was obviously horrendously disfigured. We used to see him in the following years collecting his newspaper etc. As everyone in the locality knew of him and what happened to him i can recall that nobody (that i know of) ever acted badly towards him - ie pointing/staring/name calling etc (as some sicko's sadly do)
Unfortunately, im assuming that he could no longer take any more and if i remember correctly he hung himself.
All these years later, i still feel truly sorry for the poor guy and his family, what a horrible thing to happen to anyone.
I hope this doesn't offend anyone concerned by relating this on here - you never know who comes on here. RIP fella

chadderton near oldham

I live nearby and have a stack of local history publications which record similar horrific industrial deaths and injuries around Middleton, Chadderton, Blackley etc. People recall very well that the Trades Unions were campaigning for Health & Safety in the workplace as a priority, even above wages in those days.

The very words Health & Safety tend to be disparaged now but I have an account of two boys boiled in caustic soda which ought to convince anyone that setting the clock back is impossible. The reality, sadly, is that the dangers have moved, with the industries, overseas.

We are left with the rather weak weapon of customer-choice in a poundshop market. :(

i was born and bred in Middleton Junction, moving to Oldham, back to Mid,back to Oldham and now live in Wigan.. lol,
But, yeah i suppose with the huge amount of manufacturing that USED to be around those areas, the accident rates must have been rather high. i have never heard of the boys being boiled in caustic soda though, what an awful way to go.
i have a book about strange deaths in Wigan in which a young girl in the workhouse was put into a bucket of boiling water to wash her off... the mind boggles

I couldn't decide if this should go in the Weird Sex thread or here, but I think it fits slightly better in this thread so here it is...

German woman accused of chopping boyfriend's head off with circular saw
Gabriele P allegedly killed her partner during a sex game and buried his body in the garden
Thursday 16 February 2017 09:01 GMT

A woman is on trial in Germany for allegedly murdering her boyfriend with a circular electric saw, cutting off his head, and then hiding the body.
The 32-year-old teacher, named only as Gabriele P under German privacy laws, is accused of killing her partner when he was tied to a bed and wearing blacked-out swimming goggles as part of a sex game she says he initiated.

What kind of sex game involves a circular saw?:eek::eek:

Lysol, the fashionable poison of choice, for a while.

Teaching Priestley's 1945 play An Inspector Calls made me curious about the means used by Eva Smith to kill herself. The Inspector keeps rubbing the noses of the callous Birling family in the horrid manner of her lonely death, insides burned out by disinfectant.

It turns out that Priestley was accurately reflecting a suicide trend in the period the play is set - just before the Great War.

The linked page refers to suicides in America and Germany etc. By odd coincidence, the name Daisy is taken by the character Eva Smith when she becomes a "kept woman." The fictional character, at least, is never bluntly called a "harlot" like the unfortunate Daisy Sherman. :(

This is interested me the press has by all accounts now been asked not to report on it
I thought that someone was in some way talking them into it or pushing already depressed
people into it but that is purely my take on it, maybe via the internet or some other way,
I did wounder as they stopped being reported if someone had been warned off but it seems
that reporting it was being discouraged.

Man who owned SIX TONS of porn dies when filthy magazine collection fatally falls on top of him

On reading the details,

He said it was unclear if he had suffered a heart attack and fallen into the stacks of magazines which had then fallen on top of him, or whether he had been crushed by the mass of paper.

The cleaner said that every space in the flat was filled with piles of magazines, which also stacked on tables and on shelves.

The 50-year-old's body was was only discovered six months later when the landlord entered his flat in Japan to find out why the rent had not been paid.

They helpfully posted a picture of a regular porn user to accompany the story:

Gamer dies while attempting 24-hour stream for charity
February 24, 2017

Police are investigating the death of a popular Virginia gamer who died during the home stretch of a 24-hour marathon video game session he was streaming online to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

News outlets report that 35-year-old Brian Vigneault was about 22 hours into playing "World of Tanks" on Twitch.tv when he stood up from his computer early Sunday to take a smoke break. He never returned.

Vigneault was found unresponsive at his Virginia Beach home later that evening and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Tonya Borman says police don't suspect foul play in his death. His cause of death is unclear.

Vigneault's Twitch profile says he had raised nearly $11,000 for various charities during his 5-year streaming career.

“Porn really is bad for you!” the Daily Mail headline blares. “Lonely Japanese man who amassed a SIX-TON pile of dirty magazines died when it collapsed on top of him... and his body wasn’t found for six months.”

But almost nothing about that headline is correct. The Daily Mail seems to have taken a sad story of a man’s death in Japan and added a few lies to make it more sensational. And from there it went viral, getting picked up by the likes of The Mirror, The Toronto Sun, CBS Philly, and Sky News Australia, among a host of others.

So what really happened? Recently a Japanese man was found dead in his apartment. The man lived alone and had been dead for a month before he was discovered. The coroner ruled that he’d died of a heart attack. How do we know the real story? It was reported in Nikkan Spa in Japan on February 28, 2017. The Daily Mail story was published on March 3, 2017.

The Daily Mail story doesn’t link out to Nikkan Spa, or acknowledge at all where its information came from. The average reader would assume that all the information presented in the Daily Mail story was collected by the Daily Mail alone. It appears that nothing in the Daily Mail’s version contains original reporting, aside from the sensationalist errors that it introduced.

The original story notes that many times people who live and die alone (known as “kodokushi” in Japan) aren’t found until bodily fluids leak through the floor onto tenants below. In this case, the magazines reportedly absorbed the bodily fluids of the man’s decomposing body because he fell on top of them.
