The Optical Illusions Thread

Look at the image below.
Just looks like 6 wavy lines with a few blobs.
Look across the image from side to side rapidly though (works best by tilting your tablet or smartphone) and you just may spot a legendary musician!

For those who cannot see the illusion...

It's an image of Jimi Hendrix.
I saw it fairly quickly by tilting my tablet rapidly left and right, but it also works on my laptop's screen just by moving my eyes from side to side. It amazed me how little information our brains need before filling in the blanks and producing a recognisable image.

And those of us without a tablet or smartphone haven't a chance!
My mode of use is via computer - so no chance of seeing this effect.
However, I did try to see it by converting it into a tilting 3D image, still couldn't see any effect whatsoever.
It's a no-go I'm afraid '
blessmycottonsocks.' :bump:
(Jimmy Hendricks? ~ it could be 'Cliffy' for all I can see!) :yuck:. . . :)

Tried moving/tilting my pc monitor from side to side but it made it hard to see the screen properly.

Wanders off,pouting and sulking.
The image is longer than my screen no once again ... no chance! Joining you in a sulk. Grumpy old women of the world unite!!

I sort of got it by standing almost sideways to my monitor and squinting a bit; I don't think I'd have got unless I already knew what I was looking for though.

Funnily enough, I once heard that it doesn't matter which square you tick - the action of picking any one indicates you're human.
In fact 'no.' I've sometimes had to use this tick-box (human) method to enter something or other, and by not quite making out the thing to see and tick the box, wrongly, it will throw it out and ask you to do it again with a different scene.

Yep, I've been stuck on the "tick every square that contains a bus" for ages, and have in fact given up on occasion, because I'm obviously not human enough.

The girl on the left forms the image of a face if you squint.

I found it hard to see the face - almost had to shut my eyes before it appeared. And unlike some pareidolia it is easily 'unseen'. I think that's because the girl's hair and face don't form part of the alternative face

They do for me - the darker bit of her hair & under her chin are the eyes. Her head makes an effective forehead. You have to squint quite a lot.

Taking my glasses off worked straight away!
Just one thing - the image is too huge and doesn't fit nicely in the screen. I had to paste it into a bitmap editor to make it fit.
You may want to resize it...?

Took me a wile but once you see it works every time.

For the two girls, on my PC, I used CTRL plus dash (minus) to scale it down and then add to walk away from the monitor.
(To return to normal, use CTRL plus zero).
Dali has one of Abe Lincoln at his gallery in Figueres that we only figured out because we overheard a guide tell a group to look at it on their phones that made it small enough to see. I still couldn't see it with my eyes stood as far away as possible.
