This definitely sounds like the best and most discreet way to cover something up.:thought:
Yes,just roll up in a tank platoon while a group of cyclists shout “Oh look,it’s a dead lion” very discrete, methinks Mr McGowan likes his mead.
Here’s his pic of a “I know it looks like a camper van but it isn’t,it’s a genuine alien spacecraft”

*head in my hands*

Surely, surely no-one actually believes that isn't a camper van...?

Yet another evidence-free 'news' piece on our local rag's terrible website.

https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/local-news/big-cat-hit-vehicle-motorway-8980836

Dead big cat on the M5, apparently, and only one person saw it, and nobody took a picture on their mobile as they passed.

Yeah, right.

But that's because, as Wildlife expert and taxidermist Jon McGowan (of Panthera Britannia Declassified fame) is quoted as saying: "Big cats are killed on British roads more commonly than you might think. The authorities have been known to send out teams of people in unmarked vehicles to recover the dead bodies of cats killed on our roads before the press or witnesses can record the evidence."

Yeah, right!

Another load of old bollocks, I'd respectfully suggest...
But he is stating the absolute truth. Big cats are killed all the time. Cats can get quite large, there's a really big tom down at the farm. It's a bit like saying 'I saw a UFO.' It was flying and it was unidentified, therefore a literal UFO.

Yes big cats, but he is trying to imply BIG cats, leopard or mountain lion,if it was just a big moggy it wouldn’t have made the news and the newspaper wouldn’t have sought a comment from 007 himself, licenced to thrill.

Hang on, he's a taxidermist so why hasn't he preserved the corpse of that deceased "British Leopard" for academic study? I mean, who better to find it than him, a 'Big Cat Consultant" who is also a 'Taxidermist'...?
He is a bad taxidermist (his specimens don’t look lifelike)but as a taxidermist and big cat investigator and lecturer surely when finding a 9 foot long dead panther surely he would have put the cadaver in the boot of the car or at least preserved some DNA or took better photos before the Tanks arrived,
Another one is Rick Minter, desperate for the public to believe him,big cat podcaster and author on cats yet on breakfast tv didn’t show any evidence but alluded to the fact he showed “Proof” in the green room backstage but not on TV?Why appear on the program all cloak and dagger then?No proof,it’s a fantasists facade.

Seems to be the Nick Pope of British Big Cats: comes across as earnest and credible but actually believes a camper van was an extraterrestrial craft....

Doesn’t even come across as credible Paul,he was doing big cat lectures 15 years ago, still doing them now, that’s 15 years with 0 proof unless I blinked and missed it?

One can only sigh at the desperate attempts of people to convince themselves and us that they are real flesh and blood creatures it's all very like the debates in UFO circles, and we are just going around in circles which is probably what the phenomenon wants us to do, because that's what it does, sends us off on wild goose chases

I only had a telephoto lens for my camera.” Well, stand farther away from the subject, moron!

maximus otter
And don’t forget “Military lines” lol.His raison d’etre is British big cats,no way if that was genuine he wouldn’t have stood back to take the pic AND taken DNA or the whole corpse.
The three leading lights of British big cat folklore were invited onto a YouTube live by a bloke who knows far more about British mammals than any of them, they all declined, speaks volumes.

It's a case of trad softly for you tread on my dreams, as we know beliefs are very powerful things and people plant their flags in one corner or the other, in typical Fortean style my flag is not really in any corner, no one has produced any evidence that would convince me that these big cats are real flesh and blood creatures, and when you look at all the facts it's very unlikely but still they may come up with some convincing evidence, on the other hand there is no real evidence apart from the behavior of the ABC's that these are not real flesh and blood creatures who knows we can watch and observe

There’s a distinct lack of evidence, and certainly no genuine proof whatsoever that flesh and blood big cats stalk the UK countryside, but I get what your saying, happy Sunday Rob,almost Christmas.

I feel that maybe there should be a split in this sub-forum between serious Alien Big Cat sightings with police and/or government involvement (Exmoor 1980s, Bodmin 1990s, Forest of Dean deer survey sightings etc) and then this bonkers stuff that seems to have crossed over from the murkier depths of Ufology and Bigfoot. There is definitely something unexplained behind the reputable sightings but unfortunately it is getting lost in all the noise from the fantasists and b*llshite merchants.

This is the sort of trailcam footage we could expect were mountain lion actually present in the UK.

I feel this 2023 report from Pennsylvania is relevant to this thread:

11-9-23-Somerset County-I received a call at 6:03 PM concerning the sighting of what the witness described as a black panther. The witness was hunting at about 2 PM, in Somerset county. The witness was hunting up on a ridge area. This was a scenic area, and he had a good view. He noticed in the distance that something was moving through a field. That was about sixty-five yards away when he saw a black animal. He thought at first it might be a large dog. As it got closer, and it turned, he got a good look at the animal from its side. The animal was stalking and moved as though it was hunting. It moved like a cat. He was certain that this was a “black panther.”

The witness has been hunting for years and has seen bears, fishers, coyotes, etc. The tail of the animal was very long. It was straight and thick and was at least three to three and a half feet long. The body was somewhat longer. The head was rounder than a dog. The body was muscular with short hair. The animal was moving up into an area where the weeds were six to seven feet tall. He watched it until it moved out of sight. He was concerned that the animal could come around behind him. He had heard stories of these animals in the area over the years but was skeptical. He told me, “I believe it now.” There have been similar sightings reported from across Pennsylvania for many years by hunters and other witnesses. Many of these were daylight and close range reports.
