They say you should let sleeping dogs lie - advice that one driver in China paid the price for ignoring.

He drove back to his home in Chongqing to find a stray dog lying in his favourite parking spot, so he got out and kicked it.

However, as far as the dog was concerned, that was not the end of the matter.

Ruff justice: The dog that was kicked brought reinforcements

It returned later on with some of its pals and proceeded to exact its revenge by chewing the bodywork and windscreen wipers of the car belonging to his attacker.

The vandalism was photographed by a startled neighbour, who showed the driver the next morning the evidence that a series of dents and marks on his car were caused by a pack of hounds.

Stray dogs in China are sometimes grabbed off the street and thrown into dog fights.

China has no animal cruelty laws, and a person who damages a dog or another animal can only be prosecuted for damaging property if the animal belongs to somebody.

Hitchcockean Potter Postal pandemonium. I love and fear owls (Alan Garner is to blame). This Dutch dreadwing needs to be posted far away from its current territory.

Penguin Waddle put to the Test

A team of scientists have come to Penguin Beach at London Zoo, installed a hi-tech track and are now trying to lure Puddle and his penguin pals across it.

...."Penguins move in a really weird way," explains Prof Hutchinson.

"They have a very upright posture like a human, but they also have very short, crouched legs - it is very comical."

Izzy on her first mission.

A new rescue dog from the Cornwall Search and Rescue team has helped police find two vulnerable adults during her first day.
For her first mission, Collie dog Izzy was deployed to an area of countryside in Nanpean, near St Austell, yesterday morning to assist the authorities in their search for a "despondent" male.
The bright dog sniffed of the man who was taken home safely.

Shorlty after Izzy and the team were redeployed to Nancegollan near Helston to search for a missing woman with Asperger's syndrome.
Two foot teams, police officers and the search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose searched farmland throughout the afternoon before the woman was located in the early evening.

Dog handler Jim Gallienne said: "I'm so proud of Izzy and her first missing person finds which makes the years of training all worthwhile." :)

Whether he’s padding through the magnificent nave, warming himself next to a cosy radiator or curling up in his favourite basket in the gift shop, Louis the cat has become a beloved feature of Wells cathedral.

But Louis has found himself in a bit of bother after a ginger tom answering his description was accused of a series of rather nasty attacks on dogs in the peaceful Somerset city.

The owner of one alleged canine victim, Mandie Stone-Outten, said her springer spanielMillie was targeted in Market Place close to the cathedral. “This dangerous, semi-feral cat pounced like a wild lion in the jungle on to my dog Millie’s head,” she said.

That cat has serious issues

“It all happened really quickly. I pulled the lead backwards and went flying down the kerb, into the gutter and ended up in a heap in muddy rainwater, in the gulley in the market place. That cat has serious issues. ...
