Fortean Headlines

It is said that part of good judgement in law isn't only sticking to the law as recorded but to take all other factors into account before judgement.
In Hadrian's time*, it was rescripted that in situations where it is one person's word against another - with no clear supporting evidence - that 'the judge should decide who's telling the truth and who's lying by taking into consideration who the witnesses are, their status in society, their reputation, how they act when testifying, how they answer questions, etc.'
In effect, judgement should be made on balance of probability.

* Yep. Ancient Romans, but along with the Greeks and the Persians, they did actually formulate legal jurisprudence.

.... or I say, I say, I say, my dog has no nose...

Crufts is slammed for awarding the best in breed prize to an extremely in-bred French bulldog, suffering from severe congenital respiratory problems.

So many of the ‘fashionable’ dogs can’t breathe properly.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — A man in Green Bay with a one-of-a-kind first name was taken into custody after an alleged disturbance on the city’s east side.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 5, 42-year-old Deez-Nuts Kroll was arrested following an incident involving a gun. On March 5 around 10 p.m., officers were sent to the 900 block of East Walnut Street for a reported disturbance.

When officers got to the scene, two people were brought to a squad car and placed in the back. Additionally, officers took Kroll into custody and he was reportedly standing outside with no shirt on.

The complaint says that Kroll appeared to be highly intoxicated, but he did follow officers’ commands. It is always mentioned that authorities identified Kroll by his Wisconsin ID card which said ‘Deez-Nuts Lee Kroll’.

Personally I like a nice dog shaped dog.

We had a cat that was half Persian, his mum was a rescue. Luckily his dad was a good old Tom cat so he had a better more breathable face than his poor mum, his sister was normal cat shaped.
This was him. Not sure why his eyes are closed.

As I posted on another thread a couple of years ago, my son and daughter-in-law have a Pug who, sometimes on his laborious and wheezy walks, has made unlikely friends with a Persian cat.
They bump noses and sniff butts.
I wonder if this cross-species empathy stems from them thinking "Aw, just look at us! What the hell have our human masters done to our once proud canine and feline lineage?".

A new report from the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released last week claims the office found “no evidence that any [United States Government (USG)] investigation, academic-sponsored research, or official review panel has confirmed that any sighting of a UAP represented extraterrestrial technology,” and furthermore, has found “no empirical evidence for claims that the USG and private companies have been reverse-engineering extraterrestrial technology.”

Strange that.

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. — Disturbing details are emerging in the death of a woman on the Oregon coast, including that her son allegedly stabbed her to death with a stake because he thought she was a vampire.
....
Poe reportedly told deputies that his mom was a vampire who often "poked him at night and he would often wake with blood on his sheets," and that he had to kill her to protect himself.

He will come to rue this murder.

As to the police, there's a good chance he's dupin them.

"A Ugandan hunter is tranquilizing gorillas and dressing them in clown suits"

In the August-September 1994 issue of the Fortean Times, I read about an alleged "madman" in Uganda, who certainly belongs in this book. I do not know if the Fortean Times editors themselves want to label this creative and imaginative chap "mad" or just picked up the term while condensing and paraphrasing a story about his exploits which they cite from the Coventry Evening Telegraph, 24 February 1994. Anyway, "mad," "eccentric" or just a unique case of artistic enthusiasm combined with insensitivity, this Ugandan has a truly original hobby.

According to the Daily Star: The Princess of Wales Kate Middleton has been dubbed a “chaos-bringer of humiliation and mockery” as shining star fades.

That sounds like a rather unsuccesful Dungeons & Dragons monster.

I expect the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, isn’t losing a great deal of sleep over what the Daily Star thinks.
