@Trevp666

Gets a temporary ban for the rest of the weekend.

He's already been told very clearly that his needling comments about what he views as political correctness are unwelcome here.

And we're too busy to enter into correspondence right now.

Edit: now unbanned.

A Green Warning has been issued to @blessmycottonsocks for attempting to derail the Jimmy Saville thread with a discussion of drag queens in schools.

Culture Wars are off the menu here; anybody who regularly tries to serve them up will be banned.

Regular members with full knowledge of our previous announcements will receive even shorter shrift.

There is no scope for negotiation on this point.

@Trevp666 is banned.

As usual, this comes at the end of a long line of nudges, private messages and on-thread cautions, but they've all met a stubborn inability to change the way he uses this board and a frustrating habit of pointing out how his own faults are not as great as a variety of others.

He has made and been on the receiving end of literally dozens of reports that have ultimately wasted too much of our time. He was put on final notice by @stu neville some months ago, but as the latest exchanges show, he is simply unable to pass over the opportunity to ride his favoured hobby horses.

We honestly don't like pulling the plug on any long-term member, but this one refused to get on board with our aims for the community.

A Green Warning has been issued to @Steven for his comments on the Fortean States and Sculptures thread.

We may or may not share his view that the British government is composed of 'assorted disgusting fascist pillocks', but the moderators have voiced the forum's official stance on politics often enough that he will have seen our policy on the matter.

This is not a borderline case.

@uair01 has been issued an amber warning.

As he has been informed privately, many of us have found his contributions to the board valuable and entertaining for years, but there is zero flexibility in our prohibition against politics, so his recent post concerning the irony of the Prime Minister's recent appearances has been removed.

The fact that the post was prefaced (as with the last post of his that garnered a warning) with an acknowledgment that he knew he was about to post about politics despite our request not to only seems to make the matter slightly worse: we (well, 'I' in this case) have to spend time sending messages, logging actions, alerting other mods and typing this!

Please, as I've now typed on this thread a handful of times: we don't say your criticisms of politicians are valid or invalid, fair or unfair, we just ask you to make them elsewhere so this board doesn't become that kind of place.
A custom double-warning (2 points; 3 months) has been issued to @uair01 for both (a) posting about 'politics' and (b) baiting the mods by noting it as 'politics'.

As previously announced, noting the prohibited status of content posted provides no excuse and no protection for the consequences of posting prohibited content.

Same thing again.

@uair01 has been issued a warning for attempting to wrap up electoral campaigning using video of Donald Trump's father as an example of necromancy (because he's dead...)

Really.

Although the warning is only Green (because previous warnings have expired), the fact that he has now been asked privately and twice officially to stop doing this kind of thing means that the next step is a ban of as-yet-undetermined duration.

We would very much prefer not to have to do that.

We will delete all attempts to introduce debate on the Israel/Gaza conflict unless they pertain to Fortean topics.

Those who have spun such attempts as 'irony', 'conspiracy' or 'religion' have simply generated additional work for us.

The whole situation is a tragic and insoluble mess, the debate of which will only bring discord to our community; there are thousands of other places you can participate in it online—please go there.

Posted not so long ago in Website Issues.

Ignored yesterday by @ramonmercado and others on the RIP thread.

Green warning issued. A repetition will result in a temporary ban.

@Cochise has been issued a green warning for posting his view on the current leader of the Labour Party.

We resisted the impulse to increase the penalty when he subsequently insulted the moderators for removing his post.

Please don't log in if you're in a self-righteous mood or have had too much milkshake.

An Amber Warning has been issued to @ramonmercado for repeatedly posting the same comment and link in the Trump Assassination Conspiracy Thread (now temporarily locked).

Note: If the mods delete your post, then you post it again, then we delete THAT post, probably don't post it a third time. Even a second time is too much.

@Steven has been banned for seven days for his thoughts on Donald Trump on the Assassination Conspiracy Thread:

Maybe the bullets bounced off his aura of smugness.

Posters were expressly asked to refrain from attacks on politicians, and this against a background of a regularly repeated ban on politics.

We've also taken note of those who 'LIKE' his attempts to bait the staff.

@Tempest63 has been issued a Green Warning (valid for three months) for a fairly lengthy post about immigration on the Spooks on the Underground thread.

The nature of the opinions expressed is totally irrelevant.

Frankly, much as we value many of his other contributions, we were incredulous to find this post in the Ghosts subforum; the risk of contemporary culture struggles derailling Fortean discussion and jeopardising the spirit of camaraderie within a politically disparate community is the precise the danger we have been warning against—repeatedly.

@blessmycottonsocks has been banned for seven days for again introducing the Israel/Palestine debate, this time obliquely to the Snow White Thread.

I see no reason to reiterate or debate the reasons why we refuse to host non-Fortean content on divisive topics.

His account will be reactivated at the start of Tuesday 27/8/24.

Edit: account reactivated.

To clarify:

Regular members will no doubt have seen the recent thread introducing the idea that belief in various staples of Fortean inquiry could prove a helpful electoral strategy in the forthcoming U.S. Presidential Election.

https://forums.forteana.org/index.p...elieves-in-ufos-bigfoot-and-the-mothman.71529

We did our best to weigh the pros and cons of allowing or removing the thread and decided to see whether it could be handled sensibly by the membership without lapses into the kind of political mud-slinging we used to see too often.

Yes, it contained some partisan political statements, but our decision was influenced by the fact that the thread-starter is a less-than-regular visitor who seems to have posted in good faith. It simply doesn't help the board to erase or lock honest contributions from those who may, with care, be encouraged to become more active members.

It's also, basically, a discussion of Fortean beliefs.

We began to think we'd got away with it until Skinny waded in with some misplaced humour. Even that would probably only have resulted in our abandoning our earlier optimism and locking the thread with a formal or informal warning, but this final line really isn't on:

(...I'll take a green for the team)

We simply won't allow members to 'play tactics' in this way.

No member has the option to sacrifice one of his or her virtual 'lives' to break the rules. And that's not because we are gods who must be obeyed, it's because we keep the whole show running in our free time--for free--and members making us do more work for cheap laughs or political virtue points isn't at all funny to us.
