Someone over on Deadites has just had a bit of a grumble that Fede Alvarez pretended that the woods he used in his Evil Dead remake were haunted so we can't trust anything he says .. Fede was just continuing a joke tradition in Evil Dead production (or his woods were actually haunted) .. my response explains this fun tradition:

For anyone reading who doesn't already know this fun bullshit folklore, Sam Raimi created a great fake ghost story to explain why the cabin from the original film burned down not long after filming ..

The 'truth' is in fact that some "local yahoos" burned it down not long after The Evil Dead wrapped ..

Sam's story instead was that the original cabin was built in the late 1800's. When the builder was placing the last brick on the top of the chimney, he was struck by lightning and killed which is/was why the chimney was always missing that last brick. After that, a young girl lived in the cabin with her grandparents. One dark and stormy night she went into their bedroom and found them both dead of natural causes .. she ran out into the woods and was rescued by some locals. Eventually she was sectioned as a mental health patient nearby, but, as an old woman and every time there was a dark and stormy night, she'd return to the woods and the cabin area looking for her dead Grandparents. Sam went as far as saying he'd been told that she might turn up during The Evil Dead shoot.

This is why Sam's 'The Boss'

... haunted Evil Dead location stories are nothing new, Fede was just copying Sam's original stunt ..

Ash vs The Evil Dead has just been cancelled. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'll still watch season 3 when I can.

I'm only half way through Season 2 so far, I watched season 1 under heavy medication on a hospital ward (I'm not making that up, a staff member showed me how to use Putlocker and it's perhaps the best way to watch it when you haven't got any other choice), I haven't watched any of Season 3 yet, I've been waiting for a final box set truth be known .. the original film will still always remain the best IMO .. that was ****ing brutal in its day ..

I'm waiting for a season 3 box set too, but I really like what they've done with the concept so far. Evil Dead 2 will always be my favourite, it's somewhere close to a crazed masterpiece, but the original is an example of incredible ingenuity on a tiny budget, and could still teach budding horror movie makers a thing or two.

We're not worried, us OG fans are used to waiting looong times between each Evil Dead project starting after the first film was released, it's standard .. (I'm hoping to see the next adventure of Mia now, now that Bruce Campbell's deliberately turned himself into a cartoon caricature) ...

An old Delta 88 advert (Ash's car .. almost his car if you want to get into the boring tech stuff) ..

I watched season 1 and about half of 2.....kind of lost interest I guess, though I am a fan of Campbell....
I really enjoyed his role in Burn Notice.
Oh...and I enjoyed his autobio.

I've only got his 'If Chins Could Kill' book so far, it was a fun read, yep .. he's got a second book out, sort of a part 2 thing I think, 'Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way" .. I haven't got around to reading that one yet.

Thanks for the info...I'll have to ck that second book out.
:)

Fun fact: during the filming of the first The Evil Dead film, the actors decided to get high for a few scenes ... Bruce Campbell talks about it a bit in the vid below .. what he doesn't say is that it was Josh Becker's weed stash. Josh wrote the only behind the scenes/making of for The Evil Dead and his journal comes across as increasingly stoner paranoid with everybody out to get each other in his opinion etc ..

There's one shot in The Evil Dead where we see Ash/Bruce outside chopping logs .. the truth was that Bruce was so stoned he couldn't remember any of his lines so Sam Raimi filmed that just for something to do and that ended up in the film ..

When they weren't smoking weed, Dave Goody had the Tennessee moonshine available, you'll notice Scotty holding a jar at the beginning behind the wheel of Ash's Delta 88 ... it's OK though, it was the 70's ..

They lost their way a bit in season 2 but I thought the third was excellent. A shame it’s not being renewed.

I'd have loved to have seen Ash in post apocalypse London from the alternate ending in Army Of Darkness ..

Here's Sam in 1982 :)

Buckle up, boneheads! Looks like two 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88s used during the filming of Ash vs Evil Dead are up for auction. Ash’s regular Delta and the Battle Delta. Both going for a starting price of $5,000.

A tribute to our very own "The Johnny Cash of horror" .. I've put that in speech marks because I've just invented it ..

As badly as I want to win this, I know this bloke too well as a friend .. he's a professional prop master special F/X boss (and hardcore fan boy at heart) at Shepperton Film Studios and much more, if he says this is the only one in existence he's not bullshitting but I'm not allowed to say why etc etc .. ;) ..

(anyone else would have just got hold of an old FUJI video cassette sleeve but not Rob, oh no! .. he's probably researched the thickness of the cardboard of an old sleeve just to .. well, you know)

Your friend could put some work your way.

His F/X work is specialised in a different way to mine although we're both massive Evil Dead freaks .. he's the guy who invited me with him to Tennessee to the original cabin location, sadly I couldn't afford to go but he called me when he was there anyway (because I pretty much begged him to) because he's that type of bloke  .. plus I don't want to move to London.

Sherbert Bizzare !, Quake 42 ! (and anyone else reading) ... take some Evil Dead inspired pics and send them to him ! .. may the best nerd win.

This will be boring to everyone else but when me and my mate found out there was an Evil Dead 1 & 2 double bill midnight showing at the Tamworth UCI cinema Saturday night 23rd Nov, '91 (starting 11:20pm) ? .. I've still got some of the flyers from this night

He's sending me the original photo in the post .. I was wearing a black leather jacket that night with an Ash oil painting on the back which I still own in my collection .. and then afterwards we found out they were making a third film!

Fast forward to the 8th of April, 2018 .. the original scream queens from The Evil Dead posing with Pablo and Kelly from Ash Vs Evil Dead .. 39 years of demon slaying history.

Fun fact:

During the filming of the first Evil Dead film (not including Within The Woods), they got Bruce Campbell so stoned one night he wasn't even able to speak which is why you get that one shot of him outside chopping logs just because they had to film something (his words not mine) .. crew member Josh Becker was the weed connection which you'll appreciate even more if you read 'The Evil Dead Journal' his personal daily diary that's a paranoia A to Z with him convinced half the cast and crew are out to get him. Dave Goody was the local boy crew member who provided moonshine, I shit you not .. remember those bits at the start of the film where Scotty is driving and swigging out of a jam jar? .. moonshine.

Finally finished it! Considering every episode was more or less the same, the variations they got out of it to keep it entertaining were mightily impressive. With Bruce Campbell saying he's done playing Ash, I suppose the ending was optimistic, but it did look a lot like they wanted a Mad Max 2-style season 4. Guess we'll never know. Anyway, really liked this show.

Ash vs The Evil Dead season 1 is on Netflix now. I've just finished watching it. I loved it. To me it really felt like a fitting continuation of the first three movies in the franchise. I'm sorry to hear there'll be no season 4, but I've still got two seasons to seek out and look forward to. If only Buffy the Vampire Slayer had been so visceral. I might find and watch the original trilogy again soon. It's been years since I watched them.

When me and the Mrs went to watch the Evil Dead remake, I chose the sleaziest cinema I could. There was only me, her and a tramp in there. It was perfect viewing conditions, the only disappointing thing about the night was that the ticket seller didn't have a love bite on her neck. She was surly though and laughed at me when I asked her if she had any promotional stuff for the film with "We haven't had any of that stuff for YEARS" ... so, all in all, the perfect place to watch a remake of The Evil Dead .. who would want to watch it in a shiny clean multiplex surrounded by hipsters wearing empty back backs live tweeting a review?
