Often wild fires in the US are named for a town near where the fire is believed to have started. I couldn't find any "Alien, NV" tho' so it may be due to the huge interest in UFOs in some places in Nevada or the recent story of a UFO sighting—complete with ET sightings—in Las Vegas (the Alien Fire is near LV). :dunno: ETs are to Nevada as Big Foot is to the American Northwest.

While trying to figure this out (your interest piqued my interest, brownmane), I found a reference to alien fire as a term from the Old Testament, and which refers to some kind of sin. No one seems to know what the actual sin was.

We Forteans naturally associate it with extra-terrestrials, but it can also mean foreign, not local, or standout from the norm.

That just sounds like an ill man, to me. The bail seems high, imo. I doubt he could raise a couple of grand by his appearance.

It also sounds more opportunistic than planned. He had a pry bar, but grabbed a knife that was in the basement kitchen. Probably to fight off the monsters.

His call to "Just shoot me." says a lot.

From the Latin alienus meaning "belonging to someone else, not one's own, strange, foreign."

Alien can mean "from somewhere else" (another planet or country) or "out of place" or "out of context" or "completely outside what is expected". There is nearly always an element of being out of the normal place or context.

"Alien fire" would be a strange construction in British English if it means simply an unusually severe or extensive fire.

A 27-year-old woman in Brazil was killed a day after eating laced chocolate given to her by a palm reader that warned her she only had "a few days to live," News18 reported.

Fernanda Silva Valoz da Cruz Pinto died Aug. 4, a day after an elderly woman on the street telling fortunes told her she would die soon.

According to WIO News, Pinto was walking through Maceió, Brazil, an area known for fortune tellers and palm readers, when an elderly woman stopped her and asked to read her palm.

The reader claimed Pinto would not live long and ended the reading by giving her chocolate. Her cousin, Bianca Cristina, told local outlet Globo 1 that Pinto fell sick shortly after eating it and said her vision also became impaired for a few hours.
 

Police in Mexico arrest and handcuff Chucky doll after series of robberies​

A Chucky doll and its owner were arrested in Mexico for a series of attempted robberies.

According to witness reports, the suspect, named only as Carlos ‘N’, was arrested after making a Chucky doll wield a large knife to try and scare people into handing over their cash.

The suspect is believed to have been under the influence of an illegal substance at the time of the incident.

Police also handcuffed and arrested the doll, which was dressed in blue denim overalls, according to reports. Mexican media also reported the officer who handcuffed Chucky was later reprimanded for not taking her job seriously.

If the naming of rural roads were done in that area the same as done in the area I live, the township named the roads after the oldest resident living on it at the time of naming. Usually it is only the surname, but I’m guessing that someone had already thought that using the surname Dick only would cause problems. If his proper name Henry was used rather than a nickname, there would likely have been no problem at all.

I don’t remember when the road names came about (in the last 35-40 years). It was done when the federal and provincial governments downloaded responsibility for the expense and maintenance of roads to the municipalities. This caused all roads, which were originally numbered, to be named by each municipality they run through. Thus, long distance roads change names numerous times as you travel. I still refer to the highway numbers they used to have. It makes much more sense, and a highway then only has one number for its entire length. Everybody knows which route you are taking.

The Fremont County Coroner says the investigation started when community members reached out about an odor coming from the facility. When officials made entry, they found dozens of bodies improperly stored creating a “hazardous scene,” according to Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller. It's a shame this sort of thing still happens. The Anglo-Saxons could go on about 900 years of oppression by Normans.

We used to visit Dublin quite a lot (and went on a weekender to Tralee once) and the only issue we ever had was in a pub by Phoenix Park where they made it clear they didn't want to serve us although we - well mainly my wife - persuaded them :)

Female frogs have developed a number of ways to get out of sex, including rolling, grunting and even faking their own deaths, scientists have discovered.

The researchers...found that a third of females lay motionless with their limbs outstretched for around two minutes after being mounted by a male.
