Operation Yewtree & Other Historical Child-Abuse Allegations

Ever get the feeling the media are steering you into the corral of what to talk about?
And how that conversation piece then becomes the central plank of Government policy?

Odd that, isn't it?

Like all those lost files. Totally a media conspiracy to get everyone's minds off just how depraved and corrupt the government truly is.

Fry is on of the celebrities often mentioned on the conspiracy sites

Well, he must be guilty then mustn't he? Get your flaming torches ready!

Any actual evidence against Fry? Or is that because he is gay he must also be a paedophile? Because this seems to be the rationale of a lot of these conspiracy sites you are so fond of.

I said very early on in one of these threads that there were echoes of Salem and here we go again. I see Bea Campbell has reappeared, peddling her satanic conspiracy stuff, despite being widely discredited by Jean La Fontaine 20 years ago.

There are serious allegations which have been made against powerful people. Let's not take our eye off the ball with malicious gossip and magical thinking. Not to mention the McCarthyite logic that anyone who speaks out against a witch hunt must be a witch themselves.

Although it's dangerous to make sweeping comments, a small part of me is glad that he did .. someone has to because false accusations are a taboo to talk about but a very real phenomena. When I was falsely accused and cleared of any wrong doing, I got the distinct impression I was supposed to sweep the whole situation under the carpet and just forget about it all. No one wants to talk about it ...

Or the lost files.
Code:
The "lost files" probably belongs on the Westminster conspiracy thread. Part of the problem is that we're not sure exactly what has been lost and the circumstances. It doesn't help that the items concerned have been variously descibed as 114 "files" and 114 "documents".

Things do go missing, particularly after long periods of time. What's not entirely clear from the reporting so far is:

* How many other files/documents are missing across the Home Office?
* How many files/documents relating to this subject are still held by the Home Office?
* What were the circumstances in which they went missing. Eg:
    - was it as part of some sort of huge data migration exercise involving hundreds of thousands or even millions of files?
    - had they simply been destroyed as part of a standard document retention policy (most organisations destroy files after 6 or 10 years)
    - were the files next to them in the filing system still there, ie did it look as though they had been specifically picked out?

The extent of cover-up/sinister intent will depend to a large extent on the answers to those questions...

This kind of overlaps with the 'need for paedophiles' conversation.

There will be some false accusations. That doesn't mean all accusations are false, any more than the fact that some accusations are genuine means none are false.

There is considerable verbal evidence that some sort of sustained cover up and intimidation has gone on regarding offenders in the political system from the 70's until the present day (or at least very recently).

Possibly all of that verbal evidence is from deranged attention seekers.

I think that is unlikely, just as it is unlikely that all the accusations are valid.

A big problem is that false accusers frighten off genuine victims from reporting sexual assaults/rapes through the fear of them not being believed. Most people's normal instinct is to go with chivalry and automatically believe the accuser because most normal people would never even consider lying about being the victim of a sex crime.

False accusers rely on the protection of their names being kept secret, the accused on the other hand have little to no protection against their name being published in local papers or tabloids, a factor that some politicians have campaigned to have changed, that is, that [/i]both party's names are kept secret, at least until/if the Crown Prosecution Service decide to take it to court. That isn't happening .. again I feel because of chivalry in those circumstances ..

... so somewhere, someone who has been genuinely attacked isn't going to come forward. That's the frightening thing and that's why society needs to take a balanced and sober approach to investigations carried out by the police ..

Why did Ulrika Johnson publicly "hint" that John Leslie had sexually assaulted her then refuse to either directly accuse him or clear his name after his name was splashed all over the papers after his solicitors asked her to? ... his career is now almost non existent .... her career has continued. He was willing to go to court. She wasn't. Was she too frightened to back up her claims? .. ask chivalry .. he'll tell you everything you want to hear ...

false accusation? ... the sensation that's sweeping the nation? ....

John Leslie was a self confessed playboy who was also caught using cocaine so he wasn't exactly an angel ... still, without knowing more details of Ulrika's (it was actually TV presenter Mathew Wright that 'accidently' named dropped John live on air) accusation, my gut instinct is that John was (hopefully) more of a prat and not a rapist. He's been left in limbo on this question so we'll probably never know for sure because Ulrika refuses to clarify by directly accusing John. Either he's a rapist and she's too traumatised to recount the details or he's completely innocent of said crime and she's scared of being exposed as a fake accuser under closer police scrutiny.

The John Leslie who made that home sex video with Abi Titmuss?
Yeah, I've seen it.

Dunno what to make of this.

Police launch investigation into historic sex allegations against the late Labour peer, Lord Tonypandy
Alleged victim was aged just nine at the time but is now a man aged 55 - case has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission

South Wales Police say they are investigating historic sex allegations made against Labour peer Viscount Tonypandy involving a young boy who was aged just nine at the time.

Detectives have confirmed they are looking into the claims made by a man, who is now aged 55.

The man has made a series of claims against the politician, who he said had befriended his foster parents, dating back to the 1960s and early-1970s.

The peer, then still known as George Thomas, was a long-standing Speaker of the House of Commons.

Viscount Tonypandy, a teacher before becoming an MP, also had links to the Royal Family.

Police have also referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because of a delay in launching their investigation after the initial allegation was made in April 2013.

More on Lord Tonypandy:

Who was George Thomas?

Few get accolades like Lord Tonypandy

The man who has made the allegations is quoted by the Daily Mirror today as saying: “He spent a lot of time at my house as my parents were good friends with him. Things started small but then got a lot worse. It has been with me all my life.”

He said the incidents at the centre of the allegation were also carried out at another address in the city.

Methodist lay preacher Viscount Tonypandy served in Harold Wilson’s government as Secretary of State for Wales from 1968 to 1970.

He enjoyed greater prominence and popularity as the Speaker, a position he held between 1976 and 1983. He died in 1997.

The alleged victim, now living in Australia, said his foster parents were Labour Party supporters. He added: “We went on many campaigns for Harold Wilson, Jim Callaghan and George Thomas.”

He said he had to report the claim to South Wales Police on two occasions, adding that he was disappointed by the response from officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Holland said: “We were made aware of these allegations in April 2013 and have attempted to get in touch with the victim. Unfortunately incorrect contact information was used. As a result we failed to make contact.

“We have since spoken to the victim, apologised for the delay and are investigating his claims. This delay was unacceptable and we have referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”

The Government is probing claims the Establishment covered up sex abuse for decades.

Viscount Tonypandy, who gave a reading at the wedding of Charles and Diana in 1981, was an MP between 1945 and 1983.

His friend, the late Labour MP Leo Abse, revealed in 2001 that the peer had been blackmailed by people threatening to expose him as gay.

Mr Abse said: “He was living at a time when any overt expression of his homosexuality could have led to utter personal disaster.”

The search is not connected to Operation Yewtree, police said, but officers have been notified, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman added
..which is why this story is already up and running on Paedogeddon! ;)

I know, I can't believe this has been posted in the wrong thread either.

One for the "piss-poor typos" thread?

Born Harry Webb in 1940 in Lucknow, India, Sir Cliff's father was a catering contractor for Indian Railways...

Other than that, nothing to add, except for the now-familiar "I really hope it's not true this time"...

What has Hello Kitty got to do with Sir Cliff?

All I can say is that if one were to tell someone how to access libellous material, that (in the eyes of the law) would be identical to actually committing the libel oneself.

I see your point.
It seems that the position taken by the law is that - other than a child - only a paedo would like a cute cartoon character.
So, in the future, we can expect all comic collectors, cartoonists and animators to be treated as paedos...

Thanks for the enlightenment, Dr Bastard.

George Michael calls Cliff Richard vile? He must know something dirty.

Just checked "The Coleman Experience" website.

SameOldVardoger: Moderator, please delete this one.

Another one... This time Cliff Richard."

It could stand as a fine demonstration of the way Mail journalists can run up a story in ten minutes flat on the Internet. Anyone Googling can drum up much more lurid ones but it looks like this one is heading into legal territory, so stories heard years ago had better be . . . :wince:

If I was in Cliff Richard's position right now and was innocent of all allegations, I'd be on the first plane back to Britain to fight to clear my name and not waiting for the police to request it.

My Mum will be forever traumatised if this turns out to be true

She still gets a Cliff calendar every Christmas which hangs proudly in the kitchen, much to Dad's chagrin.
