I was about to quote something I posted some time ago on the Randomly Encountered Coins thread, on the more recent Odd Or Unique Coins - but I wonder if a merge might be more appropriate.
Well, that turned into a mini-project ...

Of the two threads you recommended for merger ... The former concerns money unexpectedly found, whereas the latter concerns atypical or strange coins. These themes aren't close enough to merge. However ...

Your prior posting you wanted to quote concerned coins that had been repurposed or modified. The post that obviously motivated the desire to quote (someone's odd coin-like object) seems to actually be a repurposed / modified coin. So ...

I've established a new thread into which your prior post and the coin-object posts have been merged:

Modified Or Repurposed Coins

How about a separate section for the coronavirus? It is very important.
We have several threads on it, each with similar titles, and while they are spread out it's difficult to pick out the right one. Especially if you are ill.

Urggrhm...

We'll have to confer and get back to you.

Personally, I can completely see the argument for doing so, but we'll have to decide how much we want to contribute to this becoming the Forteana Strange Phenomena & Coronavirus Message Board.

This is what people want and need to discuss with their messageboard friends. Bigfoot and the Greys will get a rest for a while.

The suggestion for facilitating access to COVID-19 content has been approved and implemented, but not in the manner originally suggested.

The staff consensus was to not re-wicker the forum's basic structure by creating a dedicated section. This is in line with the fact we hadn't gone to such lengths for other major incidents (e.g., 9/11) and in light of the fact monkeying with the forum structure is trickier than one might suspect.

Instead ...

As you should now be seeing, a concise banner notice now appears at the top of each forum webpage, just beneath the header navigation bar.

This notice contains a link to a new dedicated hub / portal page (a post in a reserved thread) which:

- Lists the forum threads dedicated to COVID-19 topics;
- Describes the thematic focus of each such thread; and
- Provides a hot link to any of these threads you wish to access.

This strategy provides even more immediate access to COVID-19 content, insofar as you can access the hub / portal from any page.

I don't know if people agree but maybe putting these threads together into a Pacific migration/history thread? Mind you I'm not really touching on Australia either.

Hope Wombat pops in and has a say. Although there are negatives to putting them all together, (they almost warrant a sub-forum of their own), I'd hate for people to miss one of the threads.

I can see the sense in consolidating material relating to human settlement of the Pacific region, but I'm not certain how much should be glommed together under a single theme or topic.

For example ... Should it be one big "Pacific" bag holding everything? Two chunks - one for Australia / NZ and one for all the other islands? Should Australia and NZ be considered two separate chunks? Or ... ?

Another issue ... Should archaeological topics (particular sites, artifacts, etc.) be subsumed under a "migration / settlement" theme? Vice versa? Or ... ?

Perhaps some of these Threads could be herded into a Dog Forteana Thread.

Done.

Items still in blue / hot-linked were left as is. Some items specifically relating to dogs have been moved from the "Dogs More Intelligent ..." thread into the general dog Forteana thread below.

The dogs vs. cats (intelligence) thread has been left in place as a freestanding debate and source of entertainment.

Items in gray / struck through have been blended into other threads - most often this already established (and newly re-titled) thread on dog Forteana:

Canine Forteana (Dogs' Weirdness & Wonders)
https://forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/canine-forteana-dogs-weirdness-wonders.13612/

Additional edits and spin-offs have been done in the course of processing this request.

A couple of other small dog-related threads have been blended into other threads, too.

Magnets have always been seen as magic and often even as medicinal. They've come up on the various quack therapies threads.

I found two threads on magnets -

Magnets Can Alter Moral Judgement By Changing Brain Activity
https://forums.forteana.org/index.p...l-judgement-by-changing-brain-activity.41197/

Attractive Plastic (Plastic Magnets)
https://forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/attractive-plastic-plastic-magnets.17520/

However, we don't have anything just on magnets.

Here is an old advert featured on the Quack Doctor page on Facebook -

View attachment 27389

Mack’s Magnetic Medicine, offering to repair nervous waste and rejuvenate the jaded intellect, plus various other euphemisms for impotence. This product was around for a couple of years at the beginning of the 1880s but doesn’t appear to have taken off in a big way.

Ad from The Canada Lumberman, 15 March 1882 (Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library).
Had a look around for modern 'magnet therapy' and was deluged with farcical quasi-scientific mumbo-jumbo such as this chart-

People actually believe this.

However, a few years ago I acquired a chair pad thing with magnets in because I wanted the magnets to make things, but it ended up on my seat and I love it.

It's supposed to help with back pain. The finest quackery known to Man! :rollingw:

Escargot's post calling for a thread on magnets / magnetism in medicine moved here to bump the existing thread on that topic.
This is nice but there are perfectly scientific and respectable uses for magnets which I wanted to go on to mention. The problems caused by magnets might also be of interest in a 'Magnets' thread.

OK ... Your posted stuff on magnetic quackery remains in the Magnetic Cures and Remedies thread.

What little discussion we've ever had on magnets per se has been consolidated into this thread in New Science:

Done, but in a different way. Both threads were massive grab-bag messes, and their contents suggested a topical division. This topical division has been done by establishing two reconfigured threads:

Mars Exploration 1: Unmanned Missions (Probes; Rovers; etc.)
https://forums.forteana.org/index.p...n-1-unmanned-missions-probes-rovers-etc.9443/

Mars Exploration 2: Manned Missions (Concepts; Preparations; etc.)
https://forums.forteana.org/index.p...nned-missions-concepts-preparations-etc.4410/

Material from the 2 old threads has been sorted into these two more clearly defined threads as well as others (e.g., Life on Mars; Water on Mars; Mars Anomalies; etc.).

https://forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/nasa-wants-to-pay-you-to-isolate-on-fake-mars-for-eight-months.67283/
All material from these 3 threads has been moved into the Mars 2: Manned Missions thread.
